Banded Yesterday!

Recommended Posts

Well, I was finally banded yesterday. I must say it was much easier than I thought. Of course I have gone through 7 other surgeries in the last 9 years so I kind of knew what to expect.

I had to be at the hospital at 6:15 am. My personal RN was waiting in the lobby for hubby and I. Took us to pre-op, got everything going and I was back with my hubby in our hospital suite at 10:00 am sipping on Water. The nurses couldn't believe how well I was doing. I spent a lot of time walking up and down the halls. Every time I wanted to go, my nurse Susan, had to come in and unhook my booties, IV, and oxygen monitor. But our room was on a floor by itself with only 8 suites, so there was a lot of personal attention. By the way, this was not in Mexico. It was Floyd Medical Center in Rome, GA.

I ate some SF Jello and drank some crystal light. The CL didn't agree with me, made me nausous. I think it was too early for something sweet.

They sent me home about 6:30 with my liquid Loratab and Phenergan. This morning I woke up about 4:30 and took more pain meds, but other than being sore mainly at my port site. I've been up and about all morning. Had 1/2 cup of Decaf with FF french vanilla Creamer and later had 4 oz of chocolate Protein Shake. My doc only had me do Clear liquids the day before surgery and the day of surgery. NOw I'm on blenderized to "fit through a straw" consistency.

Hubby is telling me to go lay down for awhile since I've been up almost 5 hours and he doesn't want me to overdo it. Guess I"ll listen to my nurse.

Just wanted to let some up and coming bandsters and it's not nearly as bad and I thought it would be.

Congratulations! My surgery date is May 21 in Albany GA. You've helped calm my nerves. I'm just beginning to think about the "long-term" like 10 years from now and 20 years from now. Does anyone have any thoughs on that?

Hi Celecticdreamer!! Good luck on Friday. Are you on a pre-op diet right now? My sis in law works in New Haven as a nurse. Let's keep in touch!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
