Today I got offical notice from the insurance company they approved the surgery. YEAH. Now the waiting for the doctors office for a surgery date. This office has been slow with everything. I am hoping they get back to me but their answering maching for the scheduling desk desk said allow at least 3 days. I know I didn't gain the weight in three days but I am so ready to start my new life. Any suggestions on things to start avoiding. My biggest vice is coke/pepsi. I'm starting to replace with Water now. Anything you have done different BEFORE surgery??:)

All doctor's offices are different. Mine doesn't answer the phone often either. All I can say is cut out sugars and sodas. I'm doing that now and I'm just starting a 6 month supervised diet tomorrow. Also I'd get baby silverware (or just start taking small bites) and chew a lot!!! Also try to learn to eat without drinking anything...that's the thing I am going to have the most trouble with.

Good luck!:biggrin2:

I'm not getting banded until next week myself, but I have to say that I HEARTILY agree with the advice of get used to not drinking while eating. I started this last week and it's HARD to remember.

Congratulations on your approval! I have a question, if you have already been approved by your insurance company with the paperwork that was sent in, are you sure that you have to do a six month doctor supervised diet program?

I had thought that we must have everything done before our case would get submitted for insurance approval.

Maybe you want to check on that so that you do not have to wait another six months.

Just a thought!

I just received my approval Monday too! Congratulations! I have started watching my Protein intake and trying to cut out as much sugar, bread, and other "bad stuff" as I can, replacing it with fresh fruits and vegetables. Not drinking while eating is hard to remember, but I just try to not fix myself a drink in the first place. That usually works unless DH gets something for me. Eating slowly and chewing lots is turning out to be harder than I imagined it would be, so glad I am starting to practice that now! Also, I have been adding steps anytime I can to get into the habit of intentionally adding a little extra exercise.

I don't have to do the six month diet, but the office seems like I may have to wait 2-3 months for surgery.

That's a good idea, I think I will start eating without Water. The baby forks and spoons sounds like a good idea to keep the bites small. I have been chewing longer now but I wonder how much is enough??

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
