Hi there! I am new to the site and am scheduled for surgery on Thursday afternoon. I am soooo nervous but look forward to my new way of life. Any pre or post surgery pointers would be very helpful! Thanks!

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on taking the first step to a new life!

Good luck on Thursday - hope all goes well. As far as pointers - give yourself permission to just rest and recover for a few days. Watch your favorite "guilty pleasure" movies, make your spouse or mom rub your feet and if you get grouchy, get on-line and read this forum and know that many of us have been where you are and wish you the best!

Thank you for responding to me! I am sooooo excited but nervous. Did you experience a lot of pain post-op? I think I am more afraid of the pain than the hunger. Ha! I am so grateful to have supportive people such as yourself and this site!

I didn't think the pain was too bad after surgery. What was more difficult was how tired I was. You'll feel sleepy and sore - kind of like when you have the flu. The pain was easily controlled with Tylenol and an ice pack.

If you have kids, send them to Grandma's for a few days so you can recuperate in peace! Keep your ice pack cold and room temperature Water nearby!

Welcome Karen!! I had my surgery on the 30th so I am still healing. It hasn't been to bad except the gas pain in the shoulder hasn't been too fun. I suggest sleeping in a recliner, drinking as much Water as you can and walking as much as you can. You really could care less about food, at least for the first week. Be careful getting up and down... use a pillow to press against your stomach to make it a little easier, that is also good for coughing. Take nice deep breaths and enjoy the start of your new life!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
