1500 calories pre surgery

Recommended Posts

v. 1500 calories after surgery....what is the difference on your body?

If you can get up to 1500 calories after surgery, why can't we just do that and not have the surgery? Is the be/c we probably haven't stuck to that, or smaller, amount and that's WHY we're here.

Just wondering if those calories are different on your body and the scale?

1,500 doesnt work for me i have tried it and didnt lose anything, I think I need to be at 1,200 to 1,100 ,which i cant seem to do on my own, thats why i want the band

The difference is: I have a band EVERY DAY. I can't conveniently forget that I'm on a diet, or make exceptions because of an office party or a vacation. Calorie-wise, a bad day with the band is still a good day in diet-land.

Pre-band, 1200 calories felt like a really strict diet. Post-band, it feels like a ton of food. I'm truly satisfied eating smaller portions now (well, I would be if I'd stop eating just one bite SOONER :)).

I've lost weight successfully in the past, but the tipping point was always me eyeballing portions, and those portions slowly growing larger. The LapBand just won't allow me to sneak in that extra 10% without sliming.

I have to try to stick to 1200 maximum, but really I seldom make it up to 1200 calories.

I think the difference is that I look at food and think about food in a totally different way now. It's just something I have to do. I enjoy it, but I don't live for it.

I don't think the calories are different, it's the ease with which we can stick to a limit that is the difference.

Thank you SOOO much for the replies. Sometimes I think I overthink all off this...it's nice to be brought back to reality...:)

I think most of us are here because we can't stick to 1500 calories long term (speaking very loudly for myself here). I'm hoping the band does 2 things:

1. Makes me feel satisifed on 1500 calories (or 1200 is my goal)

2. Warns me and makes it harder for me to eat more than i plan.

I stay between 1000-1200 but there are days when I don't eat more than 800. Every once in a while I will allow myself a high calorie day (1400-1500) but I follow it with a low calorie day. (800)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
