Hello, I'm Tina. I've been lurking on LBT, have posted a few times but have not officialy outted myself...until now. I live in CT. My dr is Dr Aranow in middletown. I dont have a surgery date yet but I'm hoping to have the band done at the end of June. I go for my pysc eval on wed . I'm taking a deep breath and hope it all goes well.

I saw my Dr last month and he told me to lose 10# before my surgery. I have lost 8 and now Im at a stand still. I am craving a frappuccino real bad. I think perhaps if I allowed myself one the craving will go away. My BFF says no its the suger I'm craving to stay away. I have not had a frappuccino or latte in three weeks. My dr said no empty caliors. Thoughts?

Anyways, I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you. This is a great forum! I have learned so much. Tina

What was his reasoning behind losing the weight? Before your surgery they will put you on a liquid diet to shrink the liver... but, this seems pretty pre-mature. I'm also in CT... but, I have Dr. Tishler (who's awesome) You might want to find out exactly WHY the doctor told you to lose 10 pounds, the decide if you should have the frap.

A tall nonfat latte, either with SF Syrup or no syrup flavor is a good choice-- that's a glass of milk, basically. Unless your doc has said no caffeine. Mine is fine with caffeine. Drinking calories if you're on a low-cal diet is counter-productive, but 16 oz of milk per day is considered a healthy choice. If you're not getting in dairy, make sure you've got some source of Calcium.

Your BFF is correct that you should stay away from the sugar, it'll just make you crave more. Or it does for me anyway.

Good luck -- only 2 more lbs to go! You'll probably lose even more than that by the end of June -- that's another 7 weeks or so. A great way to kickstart your weight loss.

Welcome to the forum. Good luck with your surgery! A good way to burst through a plateau is to drop out carbs, so I'd avoid the frappacino (maybe an alternative would be 2 tbsp of sugar free Carnation instant Breakfast, a cup of Decaf coffee and some sugar free french vanilla Creamer - blend it with ice, and maybe it will kick the craving!)

Sorry to respond so late, I never made it to the computer yesterday. Perhaps I misinterpeted the dr. When he saw me he said I need to lose ten pound before my surgery. I will be on a liquid diet the week before. I guess I feel that its better for me to start early then wait until the last minute to try to get the weight off. I know myself, this will be a struggle and I dont want the pressure to lose 10 in one week. My dr also said that the more weight you lose before the surgery the better.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
