kevinh 0 Posted May 5, 2008 My Dr told me after surgery that he had given me the "large" band because that was sort of standard for him when it comes to men, but I am several weeks out post-op and have had three fills totaling 6 cc's and I can eat a baby portion, medium portion, or elephant dinner and I am usually not full at all. I can drink a glass of Water, or soda (go easy on me) and nothing gets backed up, I mean, nothing seems to slow down or meet any restriction at all. Shouldn't I ask for another fill ASAP? TIA
KelinTx 1 Posted May 5, 2008 Now this is just my personal opinion, but.......i would wait a few weeks. Sometimes fills take a bit to kick in. Im sure you have heard the old adage "slow and steady wins the race", ive found this to be quite effective in my band journey. Its taken me over a year and a half to reach 10cc in my 11 cc band and ive avoided any complications. I just cant help but feel from reading this site religioiusly.......that going "balls to the wall" with fills is just asking for trouble or complications. Mind you its just my personal opinion. reenie11 1 Posted May 5, 2008 Hi Kevin, I am from Athens ohio and was banded in april. I havent had any fills and eat the same as you do. I am afraid the same thing will happen to me. I was different than other posts I read, 2 days out I was starving. Let me know how things go.
tweenwaters 0 Posted May 5, 2008 (edited) I know you are anxious to start feeling restriction.....I was too. My surgery was Jan 17th...and I've only had 3 fills. Last Thursday, my 3rd fill, is finally giving me good restriction. It's hard to be patient...I know....so while you are waiting for the fills to give you that good restriction you need to make some good food choices to help the scale along. Try googling The Vitamin Shoppe....New whey Protein Bullets....42 grams of protein. I pour this in my 1 liter water bottle add i single serving pack of crystal light.....and sip on it all afternoon. The protein is what you need to make yourself feel full. It really is a mind game.....I have terrible "head hunger" not "tummy hunger"....especially in the evenings. good luck...hang in there. Southern Missy 1 Posted May 5, 2008 Kevin, It sounds like the advice you have gotten here is pretty good. Let me add that I have heard that "soda" can stretch your pouch because of the carbonation so if you are having problems with restriction I would not drink any of those. I won't be banded until Thursday so I am certainly not fussing at you, just trying to help! Good luck to you! :wink2:
aubrie 6 Posted May 5, 2008 Be thankful that your surgeon is prudent instead of aggressive. From everything I've read, the victims of an aggressive doctor are MISERABLE. You don't have to be miserable and vomit all the time to lose weight. Be patient. The fills that come slowly have less problems associated with them, and it's better for you in the long run. Remember, you have to help that band along. You can't excpect it to do it all for you.
tonilf 0 Posted October 22, 2008 hello, I live in belpre, ohio and was considering this lapband surgery. I've had both knees replaced and need this done. What I am afraid of is I do not know all the info about it , how safe it is and how long do I have to wait to see results. I hope you are doing better. Who did your sugery? I was considering Dr. Amigo in Marietta oh. Please let me know if you know amything about him. thank you
chic28 0 Posted October 22, 2008 I just posted almost the same issue. I just had my 4th fill and still nothing. Everything goes down and I never fill full unless I eat way too much...like as much as someone without a band.
