Does Losing weight = Losing Approval?

Is it possible to 'lose' approval? If you are approved at a 40 BMI and during your waiting list for evals/classes etc, you lose weight to take to you to 30-35- or 36-39 BMI category, can they revoke your approval?

My ins. was an hmo they did everything to prevent me from being approved. I would proceed with caution. Don't loose to much weight under the 40 bmi you will have a better chance for approval if you stay closr to 40 bmi. Just my opnion. I finally got approved after appealing the decision the hmo group made.

PS. Its worth the fight !!!!!

I was worried about the same thing just being a 40 BMI. My program required a 5% weight loss before approval, pushing me into the 38 BMI. I was told that this used to be a reason for denial by insurance companies but it was appealed so often that insurance companies no longer deny for this reason and not to worry about it. I'm in NY, I'm sure it depends where you live and who your insurance carrier is. I would ask the coordinator (person who sends your stuff to the insurance company) they would know.

Good luck.

I have BC which required me to loose 10% which put me below 40BMI and yep...they denied me. So...my docs office said gain some weight. I did and got my BMI back up to 40 and was approved. I think the Ins companies want to make it as hard as possible. It is all a game they play. Play it with them!!

My doctor reported the BMI and wieght to my insurance when I FIRST went to see him. It took 11 months to get approval, and I did lose a little int that time, but what he initially reported is what they considered.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
