Bands for BMI < 40

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I was wondering if there are bandsters in here with BMI < 40? All the successful stories I heard about were for people with BMI above 40. What would be a realistic weight loss expectation for someone with BMI below 40?

Good question....I am in the 38 BMI range and am also curious to know if my results are going to be as dramatic as others I have seen. Good luck with your surgery!

Sunflower,

My BMI was 34 when I got banded on April 17, 2008. Thus far I'm doing well and have lost 30 lbs -- mainly due to the pre-op liquid diet and liquid/puree diet post op. My Primary care physician and surgeon both agree that this was a smart step. Keep on doing your homework to see if lapbanding is the tool you need to succeed in your weight loss strategy.

Take care,

Dolores

I was 222 lbs and 5'5 when banded 2 weeks ago last Friday. I lost 10 pounds instantly. However I know I have to diet and exercise as before. I just know this time when I do reach goal or close to it the band and restriction will help with maintenance. Before when I go off a diet such as W/W or Jenny Craig I gain it back so easy.

sunflower, I was a BMI of 36 also, I wanted to loose 60-70 lbs. My Dr. told me and all the literature says with the band, you can expect to loose about 60% of what you should loose, but you can loose more and many have lost more up to their entire goal by working at it. I go to two support groups and have read of many in our situation that have stuck with the eating guidlines, exercised, and changed their lifestyles to be more active and involved and hit the numbers they wanted. My doctor believes slow and steady is the best way to go. I was banded on March 28, I lost 10 lbs the month before just because I had been eating more sensibly, and started exercising, then after the band, the first month I lost another 12 lbs. This is great according to my Dr. I think the key for us anyone once they get to this point is to have variety in your food choices, and change up your exercise every so many weeks, the type, the pace etc, I thrive on change, so I use treadmills, elipticles, swimming, I plan to go for some dance classes later, hiking, anything to stay more active.

Hope this helps,, good luck and congratulations on your journey. Sugrbear

Hi Sunflower,

I was banded Feb 10, 2008. Take a look at my ticker. I also dont exercise very much (bad bad girl) and my first fill should be June 18th. I think it is all down to your commitment to your band, and a new healthier you.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
