April Advengers Exercise!!

Recommended Posts

Ok fellow advengers.... what are you doing as far as exercise? How often, for how long and what exactly is it?

Up until today, I've been walking about a mile a day. I am 10 days post op today and finally decided I could start back riding the bike. DH and I rode 3 miles.. which was a pretty big deal for me... as it's the first day. It's just too pretty to sit in this house. As limp as my legs are now, I'm ready to go do something. I can't wait to feel like this all the time!!

So what did YOU do today??

My doc says no exercise for 4 weeks so my Shapes membership is on hold till then, but I cant wait to go back to Water aerobics!! Right now all I am allowed to do is walk & I have been walking about a mile a day w/ my kids. I dont own a bike but I really want to buy one soon.

Dang at the fight you had to put up to get your band. Congrats on winning it!!

We just got back from 2 more miles. You know, I dont remember my doctor telling me a time to wait. I hope it's ok. He did tell me that walking was one of the best ways to do it. He didnt recommend a gym.. he just said walk. We have been looking around at gyms. Neither of the 2 we are considering have a pool. I've heard alot about Water aerobics. We have some friends with a pool but don't know what to do once we get in it lol. What type exercise do you do in it

I do simple things like park the car farther away so I can walk. I work 8 hours 5 days a week and I stand for those 8 hours And always moving and walking around. I do sometimes play DDR on my playstation. It gets my legs moving, breaking a sweat and I can feel it in my tummy..lol And my apartment complex has a cardio gym. I walk to it. excersise for 45 mins and walk back. But like today. Non of the machines were working and the ones that did work people wouldn't get off. grrr But I am thinking about doing Water aerobics in the summer. Depending on how that works cuz in the summer I work 6 days a week. But would really love to take it up.

I biked 8 miles yesterday! And my heart feels GOOD for it. I do an occasional elliptical...some walking. In general, I work when I go home, ride horses, chase kids, but need more of that good CARDIO! I could get used to the bicycle.

I like to play sports. My doc told me I could do whatever I wanted (excepted crunches and treadmill until 4 weeks post-op) when I felt ready. I walk, but I've also been playing tennis. I start softball next week. I play basketball in the driveway with my kids. Going to the gym (unless to play a game) bores me to death. However, I do plan to get a few personal training sessions at some point. I have a treadmill, but would rather be outside. I garden almost every day. I'll swim quite a bit with my kids this summer as well. It feels good to move again and have the energy to do it!

Im exercising 6 days a week and taking 1 day off to rest and recover. I either walk 2 miles (me and the dog) or go to the gym and do the bike, weights and bike again. I typically do 5 days of the walking and 1 day of the gym depending on the weather.

That's great Don!!

I think I must have been overdoing it and it all caught up with me yesterday. I was a little sore around the port area and when I got home yesterday, I crashed!!! Asleep as soon as by head hit the pillow and didn't get up until 6:30 this morning.. matter of fact I thought I wasn't going to make it home without pulling over and taking a nap.

Needless to say I didn't get any exercise in. We have church tonight so I did go walking at work today to get SOMETHING in.

I vary what I do from day to day. Monday I walked for about a mile, Tuesday I played basketball and rode my bike although I don't know for how long and yesterday I did Water aerobics at the gym. I love water aerobics! Anyway I haven't lost much but have my first fill on Tuesday. I hurt my shoulder during water aerobics as I had rotator cuff repair 6 months ago and it was not happy with all the use during the deep water aerobics. I am going to try the shallow water type next week after my shoulder quits screaming at me! LOL

In water aerobics - the deep water varienty - you run, bike, cross country ski, do crunches and really any other thing you do in a good workout such as hand weights, balance etc. The good part is that it is not hard on your joints! I love it! My shoulder is feeling a little better today - I have been icing it and will rest it for a few days. It is so frustrating though! I will have to stick with walking for awhile more while it heals.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
