Stomach Sleepers - Does your band ever hurt?

I'm a stomach sleeper and it took me a full month to get comfy on my belly, but I am now.

I remember it clearly, the first night I was able to sleep on my tummy.... I was like EUREKA! I'm back to normal!

I slept on my stomach after the second night. The only problem I have is if I lift something and it rests on the port area it gets sore. This will sometime bother me when I lie on my stomach.

Nancy J My name is Ruth and I see that you had the lap band with Roy Cobean. He is going to be my surgeon also. I was just wondering if you had a good experience with the whole procedure? I do not have my date yet but it should be happening in the near future. Have you had great success since your surgery?

Ruth

I am 12 days post op. Stiches are out. I can sleep well on my right side but the left.... I sleep fine on it but when it's time to roll over or get up from directly being on the left side... OH THE PAIN!! It feels like someone has a needle sticking it me.. or a burning sensation but it's HARD TO MOVE!! Has anyone else experienced this pain? Is it the stitches that are holding the port to my abdominal wall? WILL IT EVER GO AWAY???

Hi, I have to tell you - not being able to sleep on your stomach forever is just a bunch of horse doody. I have been sleeping on my stomach my entire life, and just because I got the band, it has not prevented this. I started off slow, because the truth is the port site was quite sore for awhile. I just put a cushy pillow to support my belly and slept fine. Then after a couple weeks, I was fine to sleep on my stomach without support and without any pain.

I do still get port soreness from time to time. It's nothing real dramatic and usually will go away after a day or so. It also does not stop me from sleeping my normal way. I've kind of noticed it gets right around the time of TOM, and of course everyone's experiences are different. I do notice however that (almost) everyone here says they have no problems sleeping tummy down.

my port is right against my sternum, ie. below the skin that bra underwire sits on and so close to the skin I can see its outline- not fo the first 15 days I couldn't sleep on my stomach and as a religious stomach sleeper this was difficult, but being so tired I got through it. Now I sleep on my front no problem. The only time I encounter difficulty on my stomach is when sunbathing on a hardish surface like grass....not exactly a MAJOR issue for me here in England :cursing: Hope this helps.

WOW I thought I was alone. I am a stomach sleeper...cannot sleep on my back at all and now I cant even sleep on my side for some reason my leg goes numb or falls asleep (its like there is a certain nerve that has changed). I slept in a chair for the first week I was home, and now I sleep with a pillow by my stomach. It helps........

The first night I didnt sleep on my stomach...but I think from the surgery drugs I didnt move at all. Fell into bed and bam I was out on my back. the second night I didnt take any pain meds and slept on my side. woke up on my stomach...little achy/painful to get up. but not too bad. Ever since then I sleep on my stomach. Your friend is ill informed about the band.

It is a good thing we have this site where we can clear the air about some things. lol

Good luck and dont worry about sleeping

heck 3 days out my cat decided he wanted to cuddle...on my stomach. I just watched where his paws were and we were fine. It really is not that big of a deal. Yes it is surgery. But for most it is out patient.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
