Three things that are driving me absolutely BATTY in these forums!!

Recommended Posts

Hmmm....The reason I am here is to learn, ask questions, meet people in the same situation....am I wrong? I just think that people are always needing to feel superior to others. It seems there is a heirarchy even in this forum of people feeling superior to those who are "newbies". Get over yourself.

Speaking of things that doctors do that annoy me when I read about it here....

What is the deal suddenly with all these people whose doctors tell them to eat solid food as soon as possible? When I was in my intensive research phase, I constantly saw recommendations that would have you at the mushy stage at the 4-6 week period. Not one of the doctors who made my short list recommends doing it any fast. But now I see all these posts where people are completely skipping the mushy phase and are on solid food as early as the 1st week and it's their doctor's recommendation!

Did some new research I'm not aware of come out saying that eating food early doesn't cause slippage or erosion or are these doctors just pandering and selling their clients up the river when it comes to the long-term life of the band?

I agree with that. If the doctors are saying they should go straight to solid foods they are stealing their money!

My doc wants me to do mushies and doing the diet and going back slowly is the only way to do it safely. I cant wait until I am at surgery time:thumbup:

I dont think anyone feels superior than the other. But speaking for myself some of the topics or questions asked on here really is common sense.

For instance .... " I am 2 days post op I just ate a piece of chicken do you think i hurt my band " ? ? I know your about to say " COME ON " THAT question and many others like it has been asked on here.

Does the fact that we think that is RIDICULOUS make us think we are superior ? ? I know for myself It does not it just makes me think that people dont think and need to use some common sense.

I was a newbie, I asked questions. I am here to repay the favors others did for me. This thread and the RR section is for ANYONE to vent and get out what they want . There is no reason to judge others for voicing their feelings. It does not mean we do not want to help or give advice .

Just my input

Mindy

I understand what you are saying Colton. I just hope that all of the veterans on this site remember what it was like when they were taking this journey on. There are things that we dont know or understand yet, and those things might seem silly for you. For instance, all of the information that I read says that I should be drinking Protein Shakes and taking Vitamins to make sure that I get the correct nutrition. But, the person who posted this thread says that it drives them batty when people are worried about Protein intake and drinking protein shakes. I dont understand why they think that is abnormal when this is what I've been told time and time again??????????

I have to agree- as part of the pre op process, we are told to find a protien drink we like- I can only assume that is for the first week post op, of liquid diets only- once solids and mushies are introduced, the Protein Drink amount can most likely be lessened, as your Protein intake is taken over by the mushies and solid food. Thank God! I can't imagine drinking those drinks too much longer than a week or so! (My Dr doesnt require a pre op diet, but for my own good, I'm doing it..)

Okay, I have one that has been annoying me for a long time!

Ever read threads where the title says:

Help!!! Having potty problems!

HELP!!!!!! OMG I CAN'T GO POO POO

My tummy hurts really bad!

These threads make me crazy. Since when does banding cause otherwise normal adults to revert back to 6 year old English skills? What rational adult calls their banded stomach a tummy and what sane person over the age of 12 calls their bathroom issues poo poo or potty help?

I don't even respond to those threads. As far as I am concerned if a child is posting they need to ask their parents for their bathroom help.

That's my rant for the day.

:leaving::lol::sneaky:

what a great giggle to start the day.

I think it's time to move on. Complaining has it's place, then we need to move on. There forums are to valuable to us to have us focus on what we don't like. Just skip what you don't like, and move on to the things that are useful.

I guess I'm complaining too, but enough....

My computer keeps sending me back to this thread, but it's time for me to move on.

The Protein shake and Vitamin supplement emphasis seems to be recommended exclusively by US doctors. I ran a poll on it recently, and found only one Australian who said they had been given that recommendation. Here, while they might suggest Meal Replacement shakes like Optifast for the pre-op diet and during the liquid phase of the post-op healing, once the healing is done, the emphasis is on getting good nutrition from a balanced diet of solid foods. The advice I get says that if you find that you can't eat solid foods and need to subsist on Protein Shakes, you are probably too tight.

Personally, I think the US doctors recommend the protein and Vitamin supplements because they are far more familiar with the bypass and lump lapband patients in with gastric bypass patients, who do need such additions. In Aus, the bypass is very rare - 98% of all WLS are lapband, only 2% bypass or other WLS types.

Well, I'm jumping into this thread after only having read the first page and the last, so if people not reading the entire thread before they post is driving someone batty, I apologize in advance

But..........

What's driving me batty lately is people overeating and/or binging and actually boasting about it in threads . I see this way more often than I'd like to.

In fact, I again just saw a thread like this. The poster was apparently so proud of herself (himself?) for being able to overeat, that they put up a joyful thread solely devoted to this topic .

What on earth is up with that? Why would people who want to continue overeating (and indeed are very proud of doing so) even bother to have weight loss surgery? Does this make any sense at all?

You know, it's one thing when people do it because of a disorder, an eating disorder. But to boast about it tells me they weren't really ready to have surgery just yet. It's a great way to cause a slip or dilation. :tt2:(

My doc does NOT want us "drinking our Calories" after our inital post op 6 weeks. He wants us to be eating solid protein . Other than when we have our fills and are on liquids . He does not want the calories from protein shakes or milk shakes ect. big no no for him .

What drives me nuts is people who dont understand they're in rants n raves! If you dont like it, dont read it, its simple. Go to another forum.

Ah, why not even "skip what you dont like and move onto things that are useful"?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
