Three things that are driving me absolutely BATTY in these forums!!

Recommended Posts

Yep, my doc was one of those that let her patients skip ahead on the diet. I ate pureed stuff while I was in the hospital, and I had scrambled eggs the day after surgery. Now I really wish I'd paid more attention to the stuff that was said on the board about the post-op diet. If I'd known then what I know now, I would have said, "No thanks!" when the doc told me I could eat solid food whenever I started to feel hungry again.

As long as we're bitching... a new pet peeve -- people who have fallen for the "you must drink 64 oz. of water" myth. It bugs because there is no study that supports the recommendation and several that show that everyone's Water needs are different and that many don't need that much.

Water isn't my pet peeve. "STARVATION MODE!" The concept that "I must eat more calories so I can lose weight faster!" Sheesh......

As my surgeon says, he's yet to meet a morbidly obese person in starvation mode.

My surgeon and dietician suggested this, and I do this to the best of my ability. I can tell the difference between when I do drink plenty of Water during the day and when I don't. Sometimes a little "self-study" is in order. :hurray:

"Plenty of water" isn't "exactly 64 oz". Everyone's Water needs are different and they vary throughout the day and the week. The idea that everyone needs to drink 8 - 8 oz glasses of water a day -- and that it MUST be water, other liquids don't count -- is just crazy.

Personally, I feel good with about 40-50 oz. of Fluid. Any more than that and I'm peeing every 2 seconds and feel kind of bloated and my stomach gets that "Thanksgiving" feeling where you know you put too much in it.

Of course, which is why I said a little self-study is in order.

I have to admit that I am a fan of plenty of "fluids" during weight loss. More than most probably drink.

When you burn fat the burned fat turns into chemicals that are not pooped out, but excreted through liquids such as urine, saliva... and actually breathing too. It really is quite important to drink a lot of fluids during weight loss so you keep flushing your renal system. I think people do realize that if they put Crystal Light in their water, that counts too. LOL

I am very big on drinking the 64 oz of Water a day. If I don't, I get consitpated.

The thing about this thread is that people do things their own way. If they ask for advice, and then someone gives it, they shouldn't get upset or justify their behavior when someone else offers an opinion.

Protein drinks work great for me. I get sick of chewing and I like the way they taste. But I don't complain about being hungry. If I am hungry, I eat. I do try to force the Water because if I don't, it's pretty

darn painful. I will fully admit I don't eat the veggies I should because I am just not hungry.

Jachut, keep one eye on the coffee consumption (assuming we're talking about caffinated). Caffine can be a pretty stout diuretic (but I think you know this. I've read some of your posts on food / nutrition and you seem pretty sharp) and can lead to Fluid loss if taken to an extreme.

That is true and it's not. If someone is used to caffeine it will not act as a diuretic like it will to someone that never consumes the stuff.

Oh, I know I drink too much coffee. But not ridiculous - like 5 cups a day and its only instant, not strong brewed stuff. I might buy a cappucino every second day or so. I also know its a bit of a diuretic. But I drink other fluids too, I was only joking a bit back there. I drink wine as well, hehehehe.

But I must be OK coz I only pee once every three days, right?

Oh? I knew that a tolerance can develop to the CNS-stimulant effect, but I wasn't aware that a tolerance could be developed towards the diuretic action of any of the methylxanthines. Of course, it's been a loooooong time since I've been in school, so I could well be wrong.

I did a paper on the use of caffeine in the treatment of BPD in newborns. That was back when sulfa drugs were all the rage ( J/K......I'm not that antiquated)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
