Wanted to say hello

Recommended Posts

I'm new to this forum, so I just wanted to say hi, and see if there are any others out there around my age. I am 72, but people tell me I don't look it (yeah right LOL) I had the lap band 5 weeks ago, and I hope to get my first fill on Monday. Everything is going pretty good for me, and I really want to get some restriction so I am not so hungry. At first I wasn't hungry, but once I start eating, I want to eat more and more. Anyway, I would like to lose 60 more lbs. I have already lost 25 since Feb. 25. So I am right on target. I live near Boise Idaho. Bye for now. McKenna:tt2:

Congratulations on your banding mckenna. So you don't look 72? Wait till you lose more weight and you'll feel much younger, too!

Good luck with your fill.

Hi, McKenna -- I just saw your post. I am new to this site. I was banded March 27, 2009. I will be 70 years young in June. Just wondering do you live in Washington State? Please let me know how you have done since you were banded a year ago. When I changed my mind-set, I knew I was ready to have the lap band surgery. I am SO happy I did this.

Congratulations on your success!

I'm 61 but 'used to look a LOT younger'.

When I got to my lowest weight people who had known me for many years started commenting that I 'looked' older.

I finally realize I could respond with: "I may look older, but I'll LIVE longer".

Hi Everyone!

I am getting banded next month (hopefully) and my Mom who is 69 is really interested in getting it done too. She's afraid she's too old and won't get approved. Can you guys fill me in on how your journey's went? Did you have private insurance or medicare? Was it a battle to get a Dr. to do it around 70?

Any info you could give would be great. Good luck to all of you.

I've lost about 100 pounds. I'm healthier, bit quite wrinkled so I guess I look my age. Better to look my age than to be morbidly obese.

I will be 64 soon. Glad to hear you gals are on track at 70. I do the gym and feel as good as I did at 30 for the most part. I did not really fill the positive affects of the band till my second fill but after that ... it has been a great tool. I have a support group of which several clients are in their 70's and they are swimming and walking lots to enhance their health. Go for it! I am too!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
