Do Fills Hurt...please Tell!

Recommended Posts

i know you have probably had this thread a million times before but ive still not found out by anyone if fills hurt!!

im no wimp and im certainly not scared of needles ( i have my ears, nose, eyebrow, labret, tongue, and navel pierced!)

but still im a little concerned about getting a fill, im hoping for one when i see my surgeon in october, my port is inbetween my boobs (sternum) and you can really feel it underneath my skin, i can imagine it to hurt when they injected it, can anyone tell me if it will!!???

thank you!

I just had my first fill last Monday and really, it was one little prick and that's it. The hardest part was being able to tell when it was filled enough. I would drink 3 gulps, my doc would fill a lttle and then I would drink 3 more gulps and he wanted me to tell him the difference. I think I eventually hit it right, at 1.5cc, as I can only eat a small amount, but Water still goes down fine.

Good luck!

My port is just under my sternum and the doc didn't numb it at all. It's really no worse than a blood test or flu shot. Actually, now that I think about it, flu shots hurt more...

It fills more like a push then a prick. like someones using a knuckle to press against your port.

Over here (Australia) the doc numbs it first and then it is like a pressure sensation - and that's about it.

Vampy, I'm really surprised that someone with 14 piercings would be worried about a fill!! I'm a total needle-phobic and I'm not worried. :)

I hate the little pricks, though... :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
