fujika 0 Posted May 3, 2008 Hi, I am 39 years old and have been struggling with my weight since about high school. Although, looking back at pictures, I wasn't really overweight until after I got married. I put on about 30lbs in the first year. I worked out every day and watched what I ate and lost most of it. Then joined the US Army and got down to 129, I was so excited and couldn't believe how good I looked and how much energy I had. About two years later I delivered a healthy 9lb boy. Unfortunatley, I was 201lbs at delivery! I suffered from toxemia and gained a lot of Water weight. I think I was so depressed being so heavy that I ate and replaced each ounce of the water weight I lost with a pound of fat! I pretty much stayed around the 200 mark for the next 12 years. I didn't even gain a whole lot during my subsequent pregnancies, 1998 - 10lb 3oz boy, and 2000 - 11lb 8oz girl! Yeah, that wasn't a typo, 11lb 8oz! Now I have been at about 245ish for about 5 years and it doesn't go away, no matter how hard I try. Two years ago I lost 50lb, working out and eating "right". I put it all back on within a year. I just can't do the yo yo anymore! My grandma died from diabetic complications 7years ago, my step dad 4 years ago, and my mom was just diagnosed with it. I have insulin resistance, so it's just a matter of time, if I don't do something! I know I can lose the weight, that's not really the issue for me, it's keeping it off. I think the band will be a great tool for me to lose and keep this weight off.:frown:

amindoug 0 Posted May 3, 2008 (edited) Hi there, Well, this journey is all new to me. I have to say I am excited, yet a bit fearful of the unknown. I was just banded on 4/30 and just looking for support to get through these (what seem to be) rough days. This gas pain is horrid. I just sent my hubby out to get the Gas-X strips (thanks to all your advice) and will just keep slowly drinking the fluids. Any other advice is appreciated....Rainy in Seattle. Brenda H 0 Posted May 4, 2008 I was banded March 31, 2008. I have done extremely well with regards to the surgery itself. However, two weeks postop I developed severe left sided abdominal pain that required a visit to the ER twice on the same weekend - - I had a large kidney stone and UTI! Never had kidney stones before; now decides it is a good time to show its ugly self! Had to have another surgery to insert a stent and cystocopy. My surgeon has decided to wait until the kidney stone is removed before he will do an adjustment. I am having surgery this week to remove the stent, laser the stone, and place another stent. But, I have to say I feel pretty good considering my lap band was only 5 weeks and I have lost 21 pounds so far!! And this without an adjustment. I am starting to eat solid food now and can really tell when I am full! Nice feeling to know you are in control! Anyway, after surgery this week to remove the stone I will be returning to my lap-band surgeon for an adjustment. To anyone thinking about this procedure, I feel it is a God-send! I am so glad I made the decision to go ahead with it. My friend is having lap-band in about 3 weeks. We had both tossed this around for a long time and finally decided it was the best way to go. Good Luck!!!
