When can we start to drink coffee?

Recommended Posts

I've heard others say their doctors told them not to drink coffee, but mine never banned it and I was drinking coffee pretty much straight away....

Go for it. I was never on coffee restriction either. I had it the day after surgery and did not suffer any consequences.

I'm five days out and I'm allowed to drink coffee. I'm just wondering if I could have a little 1/2 and 1/2. In the hospital they gave me fat free 1/2 and 1/2. I guess I'll go out and get some today.

I had no feeling to drink coffee untial about a week post op, my doc said go for it, but it really should be Decaf, b/c caffeine dehydrates you, and we all know how hard it is to get in that 64oz, without somethiing else draining it. I'm only a ccup a day drinker, so it really hasn't been much of an adjustment. I just like the taste in the AM.

Just make sure you check with your doctor when you talk about your post op diet. I am not allowed coffee for 5-6 weeks. I was only banded two weeks ago and I am dying for a cup with half and half!

I was allowed to have coffee right away. I had to use non fat milk or fat free half and half though. Do you know if we can use a tiny bit of half and half once we're feeling better?

Aside from the caffeine and the dehydration factor, there really isn't a reason why you shouldn't be able to drink it right away.

I never quit drinking coffee--but the nutritionist did say that at least the first little bit--to add milk or cream--more to counter the acidity. Since that is how I drink it anyway--I had no problem with that!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
