simone 0 Posted May 3, 2008 Hi - I am new to this site. I've just made the decision to have the lap band done. I've done the introductory and meet with the surgeon in about 10 days. I'm excited and aprehensive. I've tried every diet known to womankind and nothing has lasted. My fear is this is just another one. I know several people that have had the surgery, some successfully, some not so. They all seem to be happy they've done it. The part I am having the hardest time wrapping my mind around is the idea of only eating 1/2 cup of food at a meal. That's about 3-4 bites. I've always loved to cook and eat and this will be such an uncomprehensible change. Fortunately I have incredible support at home from my husband. :thumbup:My son is also considering the band but wants to see me do it 1st. Any words of advice? Mowree 0 Posted May 3, 2008 Hi Simon! I am new to the site also. I will hopefully have my bad done by the first week of June. So, it sounds like we may do this within the same time-frame. It is mind boggling that such a small amount of food will be satisfying but I believe it. From all the people I've spoken with and the research I've done it all points in the same direction...we are making the RIGHT decision. I'm now 44 (45 this year) and I am tired on this body I have trapped myself in. I cannot wait to begin although I am nervous. I wish you the best of luck and I believe you will do this and you will be fine! Go forth with faith in yourself. Marie:thumbup:
georgia girl 35 Posted May 3, 2008 Hi. I was banded 9-20-07 and I have to say, I love my band. I was pretty nervous about eating such a small amount too, but believe me, after a while your perception of a "small" amount of food will change. Pre-band I'm sure I could down 3-4 cups of food without batting my eyes. Now if I manage to eat 3/4c to 1 c of food, it seems like I have eaten way too much. It's funny how that changes over time. Good luck to both of you. I wish you both a successful journey!
kathystrick 3 Posted May 3, 2008 It is a hard concept to wrap your mind around, but it is what works if Portion Control is an issue for you. Good luck to you and please keep us posted on your progress.
