Can it take over a week for a fill to "work"??

Recommended Posts

I had a fill last week and was doing fine, more restriction but not too much. Yesterday I could hardly keep anything down. So I went back to liquids. I just tried to eat dinner after liquids all day and I am not sure it is going to stay down! Can it seriously take more than a week for a fill to work or is it something else??

YES! I always stay on mushies as much as possible for about 2 weeks after a fill....mine just keeps getting tighter and tighter then starts to level out.

Ok, thank you! Just wanted to make sure. I was worried something had gone wrong! Glad it is working though!

Yes Thank you very much! I had no idea! just had my 2nd fill Wed (30th) and nothing BUT mushies is working for me.. I was worried that was gonna be the extent of my diet! I am glad it may level off in time..I thought I might be too tight but I have no pain and like I said mushies are ok,solids not so much..

thanks!

It never fails to sneak up on me, I had a fill on Monday, jsut a teeny top up, I"d half hoped it would mean I'd finally get under 70kg but had thought oh, well, that did nothing, here is where I"m meant to be.

Then today I suddenly realised I've hardly eaten anything and could barely eat a bowl of Soup for lunch. It doesnt kick in WHAM so suddenly I'm tight, but they always tighten over the following week.

Terri,

I got a fill 10 days ago. I can keep down liquidy and soft foods. Anything with texture (and sometimes liquids) causes me discomfort. I am trying to decide if i should get loosened, because I haven't lost much weight. I think it is because some of the soft foods (like milkshakes) have way more calories than harder foods (like Protein bars). Do you think I should give it another week?

For me it takes a couple of weeks before i can feel restriction. Not sure why. My last fill was early in Feb.......I was sure i'd need another, but about 2 weeks later I had good restriction. I am still at that level of restriction. I feel that I am at the "perfect" level for me. I can eat anything, but just smaller amounts, and I can still eat enough food to fuel my 2 hour a day exercise habit. My weightloss hasnt been super fast, but my transformation from unhealthy lifestyle to healthy lifestyle has been at rocket speed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
