Prepared for Protein and Broke as a Joke Now

Recommended Posts

Hello All You Sexy Bandsters!

I'm getting banded in 6 days! Yay! DH and I went out to Vitamin Shoppe last night and spent $176 to get prepared for the big day. Along with the DaVinci dissolving B12, liquid Multivitamin (VitaminShoppe brand), and chewable Calcium, we got 8 different types of Protein for me to try. I got a big container of Designer whey (Chocolate) because it comes strongly recommended, RTD Muscle Milk (Cookies and Cream), RTD MetRX (Peanut Butter Fudge), as well as an assortment of others I can't remember now, the most interesting flavor being "banana Walnut Fudge." I'll post a review of all of them once I get going. I'm not trying them till next week when I need them, as they cost way too much money. Lol.

I heart muscle milk.

It has a higher saturated fat content, but it's fairly arguable at that. Yarg.

Congratulations! The banding's not long away now. Also, I admire your spirit of preparedness. You've got it on the ball and will be successful with this sort of planning and attitude! Keep us posted.

Good Luck!! I did much the same, only I waited until my 3rd day after banding. I spent a little less than you did.

Then....found out my body could not, would not handle any of the Protein drinks. I ended up with a bad case of lactose intolerance and irritable bowels. Now I have a bunch of containers of Protein mixes that I can't use.

My nutritionist said I should try them again in a few months after Ive had time to heal.

Hope you have better success. Good luck with your banding

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
