kathystrick 3 Posted May 2, 2008 My doctor's office didn't call to schedule the appointment, we had to call them. They were ready for us the next day though. Good luck to you!

Brian 2 Posted May 2, 2008 Hi, if you are self-pay, and don't have surgical risk issues, I bet you could be done in a month... Doctors go on vacations, etc. I waited a year to think about it, read about, search my heart, (and stomach) and have a date next month. I thought the psychological preparation is the big deal. will be the big deal. /good luck.
Coley21 0 Posted May 2, 2008 Thanks Brian. I live in Florida but through my employer I have BCBS of Texas. I have wanted this for as long as I can remember. My primary doctor told me "no" a year ago, so I took it upon myself to start looking into it. I called my ins. co. and they told me that they do cover it. I actually found a doctor on here through someone else's post. I called the office and they signed me up for the seminar, which I went to last night. At the seminar the Surgeon said w/ ins it takes between 2-4 months (much quicker than I expected) and self pay is about 3-4 weeks! ..........Counting the days.............. ........keeeping my fingers crossed....... Wondering if there is anyone out there with BCBS of TX that has already been through the process?
zoomomma 1 Posted May 2, 2008 Hi. I have BCBS of TX, too. My husband gets it through his work. I do not know what they are like. I don't see my surgeon until the 6th of May. Let me know what they say, and if I hear first then I'll let you know. Hoping everything goes good for both of us.

Kat817 19 Posted May 3, 2008 I have BCBS of TX, also through DH's work. 2 years ago, they (or possibly the employer) jad a 12 month medically supervised diet clause. I know it reduced to 6 months, and may not even be that anymore. Back when I was doing this, I was 10 1/2 months into it when I was in a car accident that put me in the hospital, and resulted in surgery on my knee----they were insistant (to the tune of 2 denials and appeals) that the 12 months had to be consecutive, and I had no choice but to start over. However the other tests I had already done, the sleep study, and psych evaluation etc. would not be covered again without cause for 2 years..... In the end in my case, I got a settlement from the accident, and I self paid. Now.....I have done fine, not a problem one---until last month, and I got a virus. I thought I was going to need an emergency unfill---and my surgeon I use for follow up care was out of town. So I called my insurance to see if I could get some direction to bariatric care----and found out, that BCBS of TX with our employer pays for anything associated with the band---including fills! In the end, I got through the virus without unfilling. I will be going for a total unfill on the 13th of this month in preparation for a Tummy Tuck on the 20th---also covered by BCBS of TX! And will be using that insurance to fill 'er back up afterwards!!! Lucky for me, I had only had 2 fills, so I did not lose lots of money!! Good Luck---and if you want to call them----do it, tell them you were hoping to get the ball rolling---what can they do besides tell you that you will have to wait for their call? I would do it!!! You can also call the insurance to get info on what all they will require you to have done, so that you might be able to get started on some of that. Welcome to LBT!
