Hi, My name is Joe. I was banded on 4/29/08 in St Petersburg FL. I have tossed the idea around for a year, and finally made the decision a few months ago to follow thru. My surgeon was Dr Rehnke and it was performed at Palms of Pasadena Hospital.

I am 55 and have a 4-1/2 year old daughter that I would like to be around for, so that was my big motivator to have it done. When I told her that I was having the surgery, she said, dad, I hope you don't lose your fat arm, it's a comfortable pillow for me.

From the day that I started the Protein drinks until surgery, I have lost around 30lbs.

Hi Joe. I'm having my surgery done on May 9th - 1 week from today! I'll be a Pasco Regional with Dr. Krishnaraj. I'm really excited. So how's it going for you so far? That's pretty cute what your little girl said!

What pre-op diet were you on? I'm on Optifast and have lost 18.3 lbs so far. I'm really excited by that, but I'm so hungry sometimes! Oh well... the things we suffer to become healthy...

I look forward to hearing about your journey!

Best of luck!

Barbara

Hi - I too was banded on 4/28/08! During my pre-op testing it was discovered that I had many gall stones, as well as a hietal (sp?) hernia. Had to have the gall bladder removed, hernia repaired and was banded all at the same time. I'm on liquids as well as soft foods (shredded cheese, yogurt..); not hungry at all.

Hi Joe and welcome aboard  I used to live near the St. Pete area and still have good friends and family there :) There is another nice guy in this forum who went to Tampa General with Dr. Murr I believe. It's interesting that you both picked different hospitals. How was your experience? You are doing fantastic!!! Keep up the good work, look forward to seeing you around here!

Thank you. I live in St Pete Beach and Tampa General Hospital as you know, is across the bay. Since I moved here from Tampa, I hardley ever go over the bridge anymore. My doctor's office is only five minutes away. It's nice to be able to exchange ideas and stories with others who have gone through the procedure already.

Joe

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
