Realize Band

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was reading a post about a new Realize Band. Is this new? I will be banded 5/6 and wondering if my Dr. will use the lastest and updated Band. Just wanted to check here first.

Hi there,

No the Realize band is not new. Well, it is in "new" in the sense that the U.S. just received FDA approval for it. Formerly known as the Swedish Band, it was in use in Europe for nearly 20 years. It is wider than the traditional Inamed band and softer. It supposedly has a port that clings to muscle and does not get flipped over as much. But everyone seems to agree - there aren't any BAD bands.

I am going with the Realize Band after my research has led me to think this is the band for me. But Inamed has a new band called AP or something like it that is similar to the Realize Band. Only you and your surgeon can decide what is best for you!

If you do a word search for "Realize band" for this forum I bet you will find more info.

Good luck to you!

I was banded on May 7th and I have the realize band. You need to check with your Dr. to see if he can use this one some can and some can't. All that is, is some haven't been trained to use it yet. :woot:

I got the realize band and like it. But as was said I don't think there is a "bad" band. You need to trust your DR and do good research so when there is a bump in the road you won't be second guessing yourself.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
