I am in the pre-stage of trying to get the lap band and I gained four pounds at my last visit with the doctor and I am worried that my insurance will not approve the surgery. Did this happen to anyone else? Is there anything I can do? Please Help!

I wouldn't worry about it. But I don't have insurance ...but never heard of "exclusion if patient gains weight".

Congrats on moving forward with everything. Keep us posted.

Yes, it's happened to other people. :cool2:

For insurance purposes, your surgeon should report the weight that will get you covered. A lot of them require a weight loss prior to surgery and then they report the weight when you started and not when the weight loss is over, for example.

I had to do the 6 month physician supervised diet. In that time frame I didn't loose 1 pound but gained 4. I was told that the amount doesn't matter it is the compliance factor that counts. The fact that you were trying, that you saw the doctor every month and tried to do what they suggested. I was approved at the end of the six months. mama59

I Hope that the insurance sees it as a small lapse - whatever happened to the yo-yo 5 pounds. I see my nutritionist next week (final visit) hopefully those 4 pounds will disappear. I don't know if that will even help. - Thank you for the quick responses - I was a little uneasy.

Tee, My insurance company and the medicaid office at the state level confirmed what mamma59 wrote.

So hang in there, drink lots of Water, and don't beat yourself up!

Thank you for your support - I am hoping that I will be letting you all know that I will be getting surgery and not that I have to start all over again. :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
