No catheter for me but if you get one, i doubt you will feel anything as it will be out before you become aware.

I had surgery two years ago, and had a catheter that was left in after surgery, since it was a major surgery. It ended up slipping out, and, since I couldn't pee on my own, had to be re-inserted while I was awake.

I was terrified! The nurse lifted up my gown, and after about 30 seconds, I asked when she was going to start to put it in. She smiled and said she was already done. I didn't even feel it, and I don't think I'm unusually numb in that part of the body. Maybe she was just an extraordinary nurse with amazing skills.

OK, I didn't have one during surgery but after the band I couldn't pee. My PCP at home (2 hrs from the hospital) had to put one in. Being a guy, it was no fun and I had to deal with it at home for two days. Turns out I had a blood clot in my bladder from the heprin. within a few days everything was fine. Now 9 weeks post op I'm loving my band.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
