Had surgery 3 days ago. Experiencing cramping in my chest along with a "lump" feeling in my throat. Anyone out there experience the same?

Is this from eating solid foods. If so, it is a signal to you that you have eaten enough to fill your pouch. However, if you are still on a liquid diet or mushies you may be experiencing reflux and should contact your doctor.

Angelface, It seems to happen more when I'm up standing or walking. It doesn't bother me in the middle of the night but the moment I step out of bed it starts. Eating (All I do is drink right now) doesn't seem to affect it either way. I have an appointment with the doctor who did the surgery tomorrow.

I was banded on 4/28/08 and I have the same thing...I wondered if it just might be some swelling due to surgery. It does go away but comes back.

For about two weeks after my surgery I felt, not a lump in my throat, but tightness and "heaviness" in my chest; right at my sternum.

Obviously I knew it was right where the lap band was sitting. People think that the band is placed low in the abdomen. It's not; it's placed really high, like only a couple of inches lower than that "notch" under your adam's apple on your throat.

That's one reason why a lot of newbies say they feel something in their throat; it's the band!

It's prob. the gas, like a feeling of a big belch that feels like it's making it's way up, and then won't come out? I was banded 4-23, and JUST now have begun to burp like a truck driver, and I LOVE IT! It feels so much better! The gas below the band just can't get past the swollen stoma, but within a few days, the swelling goes down, and you will begin to burp, and PRAISE THE LORD! This was the most painful part for me, I was like OH S*** what did I just do to myself, panicking this would not go away, but it did, I'm just super impatient! Gas-X chewables worked ok, but like they say getting up and moving is the best part! Good luck!

Cellphoneman, I'm still having these pains in my chest to my throat. They last for about 10 seconds and then disappear, especially when I sit up. Let us know how what your doctor said.

I was banded on the 21st (12 days ago) and I believe the feeling in your throat is probably from your tube they placed down your throat during surgery and the pains are 2 - gas from trapped air and your incisions.

All this will disappear in due time but don't expect them to go away overnight (unfortunately). I still have gas pain in my shoulder and saw my dr. yesterday for my 1st follow-up. He said this is to be expected and it needs to take its course. Walking, peppermint tea and Gas-X strips help somewhat but nothing like good ole time.

Good luck!

Went to Dr. this morning for tightness and pain in my chest. He told me that the band is tight and after some weight loss the pain will ease. He said this is very common and not to be concerned but to continue on pain meds. Lost 8 lbs in 4 days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
