Recommended Posts

How are you April 28th bandsters doing? This is our 4th day. I'm feeling pretty good but I get this pain in my chest especially when I sit up. When can you start eating mushies?

Hi Yes, I was banded at NYUon 4/28 too. My doctor told me 10 days liquids and then 10 days mushies.

I am not hungry and I am not pushing it.My shoulder and chest pain subsided at hospital, just a little back pain now from gas.. I'm feeling pretty good too! no weight loss yet but... any day now

I was banded in Ga April 28, and I could have gone to work today. I was out of it all day the day of surgery and the day after. Tuesday night during the night was also the last dose of pain meds I took.

Yesterday I was myself again, and much less sore. Today I am pretty much back to normal, minimal soreness near the port - it just feels like the worst sore muscle you ever had.

As far as food, I am on Clear Liquids through day four, which is today. I have only had Water, milk, SF popsicles, 1/2 a gatorade and Jello. I have had one small hunger feeling yesterday, and again today around noon, but Jello satisfied me.

I guess I go to full liquids tomorrow and keep that up until my followup appt. on Monday. On Monday I guess he will put me on to mushies. I can't wait for mashed potatoes and grits!

I have not been too good at sipping slowly, but have not had anything come back up, either. I have pretty much gulped a couple of times without thinking about it with no consequences. liquid won't stretch your pouch this early, will it?

I was able to get out yesterday for little then came home and took a nap. Went out today for about half an hour and did not have to nap when I got back.

I was on Clear Liquids for two days and started all liquids yesterday. I will start mushies on Sunday. I am looking forward to it but know that I probably will eat mostly scrambled eggs (and try to stay away from the carbs).

Your band is going to let you make the wrong choices. You have made it this far keep the will power up ....your first fill will be here sooner than you think.:cool2:

You guys are lucky that you start mushies after 1 week. I have to be on full liquids for 2 weeks but I'm ready for some cottage cheese or anything that doesn't taste sweet.

I was banded on the 28th also. Tuesday I felt a lot better but now I am in more pain. I can walk around the house, do a little laudry and make dinner but I need to rest in between. I cannot lift anything. I am on clear liquids for one week. I am going to keep on them until my appointment next Tuesday. I can only eat or drink very little or it feels like it is going to come up. I cut up my pain med into several small pieces and take one at a time with a small sip. By the last little piece I can feel in hovering in down around my collar bone.

I have come to realize that surgery was a lot easier when I was 25 (gall bladder) then now when I am 38. I was fine in two days with my gall bladder. Just another benefit of getting older.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
