Hi All,

Quick question I am Pre Band Should be fitted next month (fingers crossed!). Whilst at the size I am 280lbs I get numbness in the top of my legs predominantly on the right side. It happens while I am sat and if I lie on my back for to long. Did any one have this before they were banded and if so did it stop when you lost weight?

I have spoken to my GP about it and he thinks its size related and nothing to worry about. Just curious what you guys think???!!!

I had this too. I also would go numb if I was standing for a real long time.

After checking it out with Dr.s I was told it was my sciatica nerve laying on my muscle and my weight was aggravating it. It's amazing how much is related to weight.

Now 30 lbs lighter after being banded March 6th, hardly feel it at all.

I hope when you start losing weight you will feel it go away also.

Good luck!!

Hi miss

I have had those problems for years even before I gained all this weight, mine is disc and nerve related. depending on how in depth the nerve or disc problem is, if that is your case, it may or may not get better with weight loss... If you want to know for sure you can ask your physician to order you a lower lumbar mri, if there are any herniated discs or impinchments it should show. Not much you can really do for it if that is the case, these are the steps a neurosurgeon will put you through, therapy, shots, steroids, if none of that works, surgery, this is what all i went through, i had the same problem on my right side, the surgery did help but it is a rough surgery and requires and good period of healing after, best to lose weight before taking this step, the extra weight on me made the recovery real hard. I pray for your success and pain healing

I'm glad this will go away. I start out a little bit heavier than you and my doctor has been racking his brains trying to figure out what was going on. He did an ultrasound and said that one of the arteries in my leg is slightly blocked. He also thought I could have blood clots but tests cleared that. I sure can't wait for it to go away.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
