Hi Calif_princess,

I live in the 626 area and I found two doctors in Rancho Cucamonga. I didn't particularly have a bad experience with the doctor, just the staff. That is the reason why I decided to go with the other doctor instead.

If you search for my name you should be able to find the thread that I wrote about the doctors last month.

Hi Calif_Princess! :wink2:

I have not had my first doctor's appt. but I have heard a lot of great :thumbup:things about Dr. Khalili. He is in Beverly Hills and operates at Cedars. You may want to research his name or go to the Cedars website and find him there. I'm going to meet with him later this month and if you want his number I'll give it you.

Thank you all for your replies. I guess I'll find out who my insurance sends me too after I see my primary on the 16th. I thought I'd get to choose which Dr. I wanted...but, duh, I have an HMO....no choice..... :tt1:( I'm in Riverside Co, so I guess it'll have to be a specialist in my "net work" so he/she will probably be here in Riverside Co. But who knows?? hehe

Hi There, I live in Southern Calif. too... I see my primary tomorrow and my insurance has a list of specialists also. I pray they are good ones to chose from. I was given Dr. Fobi's name from a girl at the grocery store. She had gastric bypass. Unsure if I want to do that... I've heard great success stories about lap band procedure. I'm Type II and on Lantus now. It has made me gain over 10 pounds since April. I can't wear my "skinny" jeans anymore. I'm 5'4 and 230 lbs. as of this morning. Very small on the bottom and I can wear 14W or 16W, but the top portion of my body is 2x or 20W. What made you decide on lap band? I don't eat a lot during the day or night, but I believe my Type II and now taking insulin has made my body resistant to losing 60 lbs. I'm frustrated. I've been thinking about WLS for years now. Plan to talk to my primary tomorrow. This will probably be the most important visit I've ever had with her.

Thanks! :)) I won't even get to know what Dr. I'm getting referred to until I'm done with the 6 months of diet class.............arg....

I've read many stories about diet classes and counseling being mandatory. Is this true. I've also heard insurance companies prefer primary doctor to prescribe diet pills too prior to referring patient for WLS. Have you heard or encountered this? Sorry to ask all these questions. This is such an important decision for me. I found this website tonight. I have so many questions. Thanks in advance for your help.

Your primary isn't making you go through the 6 month diet classes?????

Thanks for replying. This morning was my first time talking to her about any type of weight loss surgery. She has put in a referral for me to start meeting with a dietician. I will go to meetings and try to tweak some things in my lifestyle (eating and exercising). I have done so much, but being Type II makes it hard to lose consistently for me. I've known other Type II's that lose steadily without an issue. They can eat good or bad carbs without spikes. Everyone is different. So, the jury is still out whether I will actually go through with the surgery. I'm still researching and trying to get comfortable with the idea itself. Thanks again.. I really appreciate it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
