Where is the port located compared to the incision? Staple removal pain?

Recommended Posts

Where is the port actually located on you? Above the big incision, below it, beside it? It looks like I have a dip in my stomach where the big incision is or maybe the port is above it and it's just swollen. I cant feel it (port) but maybe I'm not feeling in the right direction.

Also, for those of you who had staples.. does it hurt having them taken out? I have a total of 15 and as much as I'm ready for them to be removed, I'm kind of dreading it.

I am not banded yet, so I cannot speak to that part but I did have staples (a bunch) when I had my c-section. They were in there for about five days and when I had them taken out I didn't feel anything, just pulling on the skin. You'll do fine! Good luck!

My port is on my right side just below my ribs. I couldn't feel it at first but I have lost 50 lbs and I have been able to feel it for a while now

Hi! One thing that kind of freaks me out is if you will be able to feel the port all the time or will you just forget about it after a while? I know it has to heal, but once it does is it always noticeable?

Hello,

My port is sort of mid-upper abdomen for me. In my case the port is located directly beneath the larger incision.

I had steristrips instead staples, but had staples with two c-sections. It doesn't really hurt to have them out...maybe a tiny pinch on some of them. 15 staples isn't all that many and should be over quickly.

tmfritts~~I'm not sure what you mean by the port being always noticeable...do you mean can you always feel it as in with your hands, or feel it as in inside your body--if you're just sitting there.

You will most likely always be able to locate your port by feeling for it, however you shouldn't feel it internally at all.

HTH!

Thanks for the input! I figure that I will just forget about it once it heals!

My port is directly behind my large incision. My port doesn't hurt at all. I can feel it if I push in on my belly a bit. If I over-do my walking/exercise I feel a bit of tenderness in that area...but I am sure that will go away once I am 100% healed.

I had 11 staples..they itched like crazy 3 days out...I had them out at 5 days post op...didn't feel it at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
