Post-Op..do you hve any regrets?

Recommended Posts

My only regret is that I did not do this a long time ago. I am very happy with my decision. Some of my favorite foods do not agree with me anymore, but thats ok I am fine with that. I was banded Feb 22, 2008 and lost a total of 31lbs. Sometimes it comes off fast and some days slow. Don't regret anything that you do, especially if it comes to your health.

One week out I've very happy with my decision. Here's hoping I get to start mushies after my doctor visit tomorrow!

No regrets, except I should have done it sooner. I'm 4 weeks post-op and I feel great. I thought I would miss Diet DP, but I don't. I eat well so that when I want something I have it (unless it doesn't agree with me). I don't deprive myself. I have whatever I want, just a lot less. At first I thought it was depressing that I couldn't eat all my favorite things in the quantities that I used to, but actually it is freeing to know that I can have just a small amount and be happy with that. I have a lot more energy than before and for the first time I am looking forward to summer. I love to play sports and have joined a summer softball league. I feel like doors are opening where before they were wedged shut. Good luck with your decision to have surgery. I was nervous too, but I'm so glad I went through with it!

I'm scheduled to be banded 2 weeks from today and it's a roller coaster. One minute I'm excited and the next, I'm wondering if I'm crazy. I'd like to get some feedback from those of you who are on the other side of the procedure. Do you have any regrets? Would you make the same decision again? Thanks for your help!

wihtout thinking twice ....would do it again.

I was banded 4/28/08 with the Realize Band and so far it has been the best experience. I had very little discomfort in the hospital and none since I've been home. I am back to work and having no problems. I'm with the rest that my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. Good Luck!

I had surgery done Plano Tx, self pay $9990--lost 20 pounds! I never had trouble "getting" the weight off, keeping it off is where i failed miserably and became tired and fed up with yo-yo game. Hopefully, this will be my last time down from "Super Obesity Mountain" and I can just be a norml human:) I would do it again as I need more hands on help than just positive thinking and encouragement(although these are helpful)! When I came to this conclusion, the band was perfect for me:)

smiles....

Would I do it again? ABSOLUTELY! The best money I ever spent on anything.

For lots of the reasons others have more eloquently stated, and mainly because I want to be an active participant in life, not someone sitting on the sidelines watching great things unfold for others, drowning my sorrows in potato chips and ice cream!

My Mom was morbidly obese, my Dad died of diabetes, even with some post op problems I'm so glad I did this. The first week I was asking "what have I done to myself"

Honestly, I did..I went through some really big emotional ups and downs. It did not help that my children were spending the week after my surgery witht their dad..so just be aware...there are emotional ups and downs...your body is going through major surgery, your blood sugar and body is adjusting to a liquid diet and post op meds, your brain is adjusting to the new band and your stomach is swollen. I was also like the writer above, I think I was really just down on myself that I even had to control my eating by being banded in the first place. I wondered why I couldn't be strong like my friends and just "diet" like them..I had to realize that I had an addiction..Mine was food...but now that I am healed, I do not have any regrets. Just like stated above, regrets of not eating foods? They were not healthy for me to begin with..Good luck..Sorry it was so long, but I wish someone had told me about the emotional healing I would be going through, just like the physical.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
