I am wondering how you handle the sweet tooth after surgery? I dont crave just sugar (i am an equal opportunity food offender) but I do crave it and obviously havent been sucessful controling myself with it (and others). Anyone gone through this and made it? I am just on the verge of scheduling the surgery but need this last issue resolved...HELP:lol:

I don't have a sweet tooth, but I had my share of cravings. How I handle it? When I crave something, I have it. My personal belief is that it's better to satisfy a craving with a reasonable amount of the food, than to deny the craving, have it grow into an obsession, and then end up eating the whole container.

I would love to have an answer to this burning question. When I am successful its because I leave it completely out of my diet and when Im failing its because Ive let it back in.

This is my experience, it may be different for others.

I will freely admit that i do not deny myself. If i want something that is not really considered good for me i have it. Thankfully my lapband enables me to be satisfied with 2 or 3 bites of the wanted thing. I never let myself feel deprived of something because that leads me to self destructive behavior, and i can tell you two or three bites is just as good as having an entire serving in my book now!

When I quit smoking about a year ago, I learned that sometimes you just have an unsatisfied craving. Recognize it for what it is (a seductive drug that will kill you in the end) and don't give it any more head space than you can help. They do go away.

When I have a craving for something----I try to decide first if it is boredom---or really wanting the item. I begin by first drinking a glass of ice water----sometimes my own thirst disguises itself as hunger, or cravings of things. If I am still wanting it.....I either take a walk, or hit the elliptical....oftentimes that boosts my "I can do this" attitude. If not.....then I have whatever it is I was craving. I keep a bag of chocolate---good chocolate---and allow myself a couple of pieces, and I am good.

If it is chips I want, I eat a few. It doesn't take the entire bag anymore to satisfy the craving. But a lot of the time, knowing my next step is to have to get on the elliptical----I am able to avoid it altogether!!!! I call it the ellipticHELL!!!! But there are days the chocolate is worth it.....no doubt about it!

:wub:Thanks, i think that might be what ends up being my truth. I am already practicing chewing more and eating slower. It makes sense that if you have a smaller stomach (pouch) then you will just eat a piece or 2 not the entire thing.

I am so excited to start a new life!

Thank you so much

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
