Will I fail my Psych Exam?

Thinking ahead once more...The Psych Eval.

I've heard Kaiser denies you for depression. Am I depressed? Yes, I'm depressed, and my weight is the main reason for that. What else do they want to know. Am I ashamed of the way or look or do I stay at home and avoid social activities because of it? Yes, Yes! That is 50% why I am here, after my health concerns!

So, my question is, who fails this and for what reason? Would a person who have no idea what this surgery is about not at least pretend to know what they were talking about at the Eval?

Hey again. Depression is now a co-morbid so I don't know how anyone can be denied for having a co-morbid.

But check, perhaps google it.

I was told by an health professional insider that those psych evaluations are to access the patients ability and willingness to follow doctors orders.

Not gonna matter if someone has depression, agoraphobia, panic disorder, bi-polar, personality disorder, etc.

Remember what we talked about in chat.... patients with these disorders were approved.

Don't worry...but do google it!

Congrats on taking the steps and hope everything goes smoothly for you.

Hi there...

I had my psych eval today.. and it was VERY basic... I did have to fill out a few surveys... the color in the circle ones... one was T or F and the other was a degree of depression one... She told me that 15 was the cut off to allow someone to do surgery... I was a 9. I do not feel as though I am depressed... I feel as though my weight holds me back...

I was very nervous about my eval but it was fine... she asked about diets I had been on... the kind of things I eat now AND what kinds of things I will be eating.

She was very informed in the lapband because that is primarily what she screens for. She was not judgemental just making sure that I had valid thoughts and expectations of what the band was.... I have heard it said here before... It is a tool for weightloss... and it not the primary solution.

she also wanted to see how I handled doctors orders and if I was prepared for what the surgery entailed pain level wise...

She asked questions about if I was an emotional eater... if I ever thew up after eating for weightloss.. what other diet programs I had tried... things of that nature....

I hope this helps to give you peace of mind.. If you have any questions after reading my reply.. Please let me know..

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
