Hello All! I need some help! I was banded on 4/21 and have dropped close to 20 pounds (with the help of my son's nasty stomach bug). To my horror, I got on the scale this morning and had gained 3 pounds! I am currently at the mushie stage and I'm eating what I was told and in the amounts I was told, so I don't understand the weight gain. Has anyone else experienced weight gain in the beginning stages?

This happens. You've lost a LOT of weight in just one week, so your body needs some time to adjust. Give it a few days, don't weigh and keep plugging along. If you continue with the eating plan and drinking lots of Water you're going to lose weight. I started my pre-surgery diet and lost 15 pounds in the first two weeks - wahoo! These last two weeks have been hell. Nothing lost, but I FEEL like I'm losing - my clothes fit better, so I know I just need to keep plugging along.

I think our bodies need time to readjust. We're shocking them into submission! Keep the faith and hang in there!

Completely normal. Especially if you were on liquids for a couple weeks -- you pooped out all the solids. Now that you're eating mushies, you've got poop solid building up again and that usually accounts for a couple pounds.

Don't worry, if you stick to eating per the guidelines, you'll start dropping again soon.

Also -- don't forget that daily weight fluctuations are normal anyway.

I have only lost 10 pounds since my surgery 2 months ago. You are doing just great. My suggestion is that you measure yourself. I have lost more inches than pounds and I am sure you may be in the same boat. Look for non scale victories. Stick to the diet plan and everything will be fine. Good luck to you!

It can also depend where you are in your cycle my doc said to weigh yourself once a month on the same date so you are at the same time in your cycle and get an accurate weight....unless your like me and need your scales taken off you to be able to do this lol

I lost a bunch in the beginning but as soon as the swelling went away I had no restriction and gained over 10lbs before my first fill.... Terrible I know!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
