Motivation to stay on track

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this is a duplicate post - I couldn't find one like it.

I was banded Oct 07 and have lost 30 lbs to date - but not more since Jan 07. I am stuck. I now realize the band is not the panacea I was expecting.

Anyways, my dilemma is this: I am having a really tough time saying no to eating. I am not always hungry - but my appetite is always raging. Even though there aren't "bad" foods in the house, I am still eating more than I should and just don't feel satisfied by what I am eating. What's wrong? Where's my motivation and how do I get back on track? Anyone else going thru this? I want my determination and motivation back to keep me losing. I can get another fill, to 5cc (10cc band) but when I have done it in the past, I PB almost all proteins! I'm so frustrating and disappointed both in myself and my expectations...anyone have experience with this? Thx, M

thanks Jack for your quick feedback. Yes, I think I will always struggle with being a foodie and having an appetite - just would like to eat less of it all and make peace with food. Right now food in general feels like a battle - there's so much "good" stuff I just can't eat - i.e. chicken - that I feel a bit rebellious and resentful. I can't seem to get over this as every meal is a struggle to figure out what will go down and stay there....

Am working on trying to resolve my lack of satisfaction and over-eating - and I do realize that getting back on track will help - but I seem to lack the willpower to just say NO. M

It sounds like you might do well to have a slight unfill. You might feel better if you can eat things like chicken, and other solid Protein.

Thanks Marimaru - I am terrified of doing that, because when I last did a slight unfill, I was hungry again! argh! I have never been able to eat chicken consistently well - a few times I can get a few bites down. the dietician says it has more do with chewy tendons than anything else - doesn't seem to matter which cut either. I still cook it and try to eat it in tiny bites...

I know my problem is motivation to just say NO. How did you stay on track for so long to reach your goals?? M

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
