Help!!! I am falling off the post-op diet wagon

Recommended Posts

:blushing: I had Lap Band surgery Fri Apr 18th. It will be 2 weeks on Friday. Holy cow. I am already starting to eat regular foods. I chew chew chew really good and the good news is that I get full sooo QUICK, I am just afraid. I know I am still healing and scar tissue is forming. I haven't gotten sick or thrown up which I know is a huge deal not to do at least in the first 2 months. Has anyone else indulged too soon post-op? Was your doctor totally upset? Is anyone out there that had band slippage or had the top part of their pouch stretched out. I feel so disappointed with myself. I was doing well. I was down 10 pounds just one week after surgery. I guess this is the kind of selfishness is what got me to be overweight in the first place. Is there anyone else out there like me?

hi

I was banded mar25 and like you I was lucky and had no nausea at all I was

hungry and did do soft foods by 2 weeks my dr. said I could.I can tell you once my swelling went down I was able to eat alot more and felt full for about 4 hours.By week 4 I could eat everything including all the things that banded people should have trouble with.I had 1 fill and still no restriction i can still eat everything.I hope more fills will fix this I want that full feeling again like the first few days after surgery.Don't be to hard on your self none of us are prefect try to get back on track and don't look back just ahead to this new chapter in your life.:blushing:

Hey Key West Girl,

I was banded 4-15-08... I was so hungry today that I scrambled an egg and ate it. I feel fine, kept it down fine, chewed it REALLY well. But I still feel guilty about eating it three days early. I think it will be fine.... but I def feel your pain. =)

thanks for the quick reply Pat. I am so happy to hear that soft foods won't damage band placement in week 2. I am going to lay off though for a few days and continue with Soup. I was self pay and can't or should I say don't want any complications.

My first official soft food today? Overdone Pasta with some chopped up chicken (think chicken salad chicken) and mushrooms. It's what the family was having for dinner, and I needed Protein. The numbers were high, and was too hungry and tired to think further. Poor planning on my part, but it was a long day and I was sick of two whining kids. I'm also not feeling great after overextending myself one week after surgery (today was the first day I had the kids on my own). Excuses? Probably. But still my reality.

I'm feeling kind of nauseous because even though I only ate 1c of it, it's way more than I'm used to eating. I'm pretty sure I'll head back to mouse portions, but my first fill isn't for another three weeks. Apparently it's going to be a significant one (4cc; I have a Realize band and that's the standard initial amt), so it ought to be interesting.

I have to say, though, this is nothing like I anticipated. I'm having an INCREDIBLY difficult time controlling the urge to eat like a 'normal' person. It's basically fear of majorly f**cking this up that's keeping me in line, kwim?

Hang tight. We'll get through this. We have to, right? :blushing:

hugs

-m

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
