Brandy~ 2 Posted April 30, 2008 Before the surgery I was really worried about how it would affect me foodwise since I cook for a family of 4 so I would be near food all the time. I have the exact opposite problem then I thought I would... I hate food. I don't want to have to eat. I just have 2 EAS shakes per day 54 grams of Protein and the rest is Water or crystal lite. My doctor says it's normal and no biggie... I have restriction since I am only 1 week post op. I am wondering if this will change... I love cooking it even if I don't eat it so right now its nice to cook and smell all the yummy things but not have interest in eating them.
luluc 6 Posted April 30, 2008 Brandy I think this will change for you. My husband (also banded) and I are big time cooks - before the band, and after. I had no desire for food till 10-12wks out, now we're turning into health nuts & take turns each wkend trying new menus for the family. We thought it odd the other night when we were talking w/another banded couple - they HATE food / preparing; rather have Protein Shakes & they're almost a year out. Hubby and I have a different approach - we ENJOY our meals so much more now. Great quality meats / fish / poultry / veggies / fruits - we incorporate it all, and our friends & family enjoy what we prepare. Some have commented they're now loosing weight from our dishes VS what we "use" to prepare.... It will come - if you love cooking like I do; finding great quality items & recipes becomes fun. Good luck !!

Daisalana 33 Posted April 30, 2008 Brandy, it will change.. I remember the first couple of weeks I had no desire to eat, so the beginning diets were a breeze. Then the swelling goes away and you're in 'bandster hell'.. the time period between surgery swelling going down & your first fill. Hungry and wanting to eat everything in sight, and likely won't even feel like you have a band! I am kind of back there with good restriction. Eating is a PITA, so I don't look forward to it like I once did. And I don't get excited over most foods, like I use to. It's just food now.
smgallop 1 Posted April 30, 2008 I think this will eventualy pass. You will want real food again. You are going through a huge change right now. Your body will require different foods later on. As far as food cravings go... I absolutely detest candy bars and fried foods. I think it's psycho-symatic (sp) for me though. i can't stand the thought of eating absolutely junk like that ever again! Also, I get very frustrated by large plates of food put in front of me at restaurants. (This is even true about the "kid" sized plates. I just can't imagine ever eating that much food again. three sixty six 1 Posted April 30, 2008 I don't know about post-banding food issues, as I am not yet banded, but... I'm sick of eating. I cannot wait for my liquid diet. I have been eating non-stop for 25 years and I'm tired of it. I hope that lasts!
