I think that if you read the post everybody has different reactions. For me itis ground beef in any forum, for others it is eggs and still others chicken. But chewing things extreamly well certainly helps avoid most problems.

Dry meats! I had my only "sliming" episode on a fried chicken strip. I've learned to have a dipping sauce handy for those type of foods. (Not that it was the healthiest choice anyway! LOL)

I am now a little over 6 weeks postop and really have had no problem with anything except for two times when I took too big of bites or didn't chew well enough. Once was a big bite of tuna when I wasn't paying attention and another was a dry chicken finger bite I didn't chew well enough. I have never PBed nor slimed, but I had HORRIBLE pain. It helps you remember to chew, chew, chew. I have had shrimp, chicken, eggs, steak, ground beef...all of it...just pureed in my mouth and swallowed little bits at a time. Good luck.

Tonight while rushing to eat something (at that time I was famished) I ordered some rather dry chicken and broccoli)...trying to swallow was TREMENDOUSLY PAINFUL!!! I coulnd't breathe for a second. I promoptly threw it away and nibbled on a half a strawberry. That'll teach me!

Baked or broiled fish. Soups, gee how'd we get along with out them now? I was never big on Soup prior to banding, but I'll eat almost any kind of soup now.

Steaks, pork chops, are not easy for me because I can't chew them to mush, if it ain't mush in my mind I freeze and feel that I can't get it down weird I know, but chicken, fish and hambuger seem to be just fine oh, and veggie burgers too.

Dry meat for me too....I made some pork meatballs with ginger, garlic and chili a couple of weeks back. I mixed in a couple of tablespoon of breadcrumbs and bound them with an egg to keep them soft, browned them in a dry pan then baked in the oven. When they were hot they went down fine, but the next day I took them to work cold and boy did they hurt. I made up a non-fat yogurt dip with lemon juice and paprika and that made it much easier. Same with chicken - if I have some kind of dressing or sauce it's fine. I'm going to become an expert at lo-cal sauces!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
