Me nursing my 11 month old had no bearing on whether they would do the surgery for me. It shouldn't be a problem. You just have to work out what the anesthesiologist wants you to do afterwards, as far as how long to wait to nurse, or if you need to pump and dump.

Hi.. I am having the surgery on the 25th of July and I am nursing my 9 month old.. I had to work with the nutritionist to make sure I will be getting the correct calories, because stopping nursing was not an option for me. I also am doing about a 1600 cal pre-op instead of the 800 cal liquid and post-op I am going to have to get creative with the Protein Powder. because liquid diet is not recommended for nursing.. but what can ya do your stomach has to heal.. But I am sooo glad to see other nursing mammas with the lap-band!! (and PG ones too!)

oh and has anyone had the lap-band surgery while nursing? did the post op clear liquid and liquid diet slow your milk production? are there any tips to keep it going? my nutritionist is checking out clear Protein supplements for me... but any help would be appreciated.. also I know they say pump and dump for 24 hrs.. but from my past expierences in the hospital most docs err on the side of extreme caution.. does anyone have any facts about this? and when its safe to feed again.

I can take any physical pain related, I can't take my son crying because he want's to nurse and I can't (won't). Did the anesthesiologist give you any worries or the pain med's for management afterwards ? My son is 2 so therefore I'm not worried about him nutrionally, I just don't want to pump and dump (I'm past that), I just want to know how long I should wait after surgery to resume our night nursing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance !!!

Surely I can't be the only nursing bandster..who else is out there?

I am nursing my 4th right now..was banded on April 25th..nursed when I left for the surgery..nursed when I came home (6 hours later..lol).

It was a bit painful having her plop on top of my belly with my incisions (a pillow between us helped!)..and the first night was rough, as she seemed to want to nurse every hour, but we are doing well now, 4 days later. Just have to remind her to be gentle on Mama

i just had my band put in 2 wks ago. i am still nursing my 1 year old. i got home from surgery at 6 pm and nursed him around 7:30 and then all night long. I didnt take the lortab/hydrocodone but instead took liquid tylenol for pain. my lactation consultant said it was fine to nurse that night. my actual surgery was performed at 1:30 pm and lasted an hour.

oh and i suggest getting clear Isopure from GNC for your Protein for the first wk. i didnt know about this stuff and i suffered the whole first wk with getting no Protein at all. my son nurses every 3-4 hrs or so still, so any nutrients i was getting/calories was leaving my body quickly and i had zero energy. my milk supply didn't seem to be affected though surprisingly.

you can do what you want,, I pumped a 24hr supply and then my baby who was 11months took it from a bottle for the 24hrs after.. my lactation consultant looked up all the info on the anes. I was given and she recommended 24hrs after. it wasnt a big deal and I just resumed nursing her the next morning.. as far as puming and dumping.. I thought I would have to do it a lot but since she was 11 months and already eating other foods I just waited till I was full and pumped once and it was done..

for me it was good to have the 24hours not to have to nurse and I didnt want to be worried about what "could" happen.. so many people are allergic to anes.. I didnt want to push it..to have one more thing to think about while trying to heal the first 24 hours.. so to me it was definately worth it to wait. besides its not like she was 4 months and completely dependant on my milk..

the anesthesiologist told me 72 hours.. I laughed...

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
