Would you do it again?

Hi, my name is Shelly and I am now waiting on my insurance to give me the go ahead. But, I want to ask if you could do it all over again would you?:confused2:

Hi Shelly,

You have to really make sure you are not emotional eating, because if you are, you have to overcome those issues first. The band does not stop the bad things from going down. chocolate, ice cream, chips, and all the fattening things you love go right on down. You have to supply the will power...

For me, no. The things I typically overeat are not stopped by the band.

Hi Shelly; you've seem to have gotten a lot of responses on this, so I'll add my .2cc worth here (no pun intended) too. If you are still reading.. well .here goes;

I had lap band surgery on 4/29/08 Today I had to go into see the doctor (about one of my stitches), they weighed me in and i lost a whopping 17 lbs, after being banded only 10 days. Goodness, talk about getting the wind kicked out of me, i could not believe it. Initially before I was banded, I had a lot of pain in my lower back (inflamation, chronic pain it was awful for almost a year or maybe more). but now I'm feeling ok in my lower back, it went away. it was due to the weight . I have mixed feelings sometimes, like today I felt really bloated and gassy, (the Unjury protien power and milk products make me want to gross out), but other than that...

Is it worth it... I won't have diabetes, or heart disease if I stick with my band and weight goals. I will live a lot longer... and live in comfort and not pain. People do what they have to do to survive... I did, and whatever you do, take that into consideration.

Good luck, C

Shelly.... I was banded about a year ago... I've lost over 100 pounds. It was a struggle... it was tough. I even recently had to go to the emergency room to have a complete un-fill because fish got "stuck". Even with that... and all the challenges... I would do it again in a heart beat... without even thinking about it. I couldn't keep weight off. (Sure I could lose 40 pounds... but, then I'd gain 50)... I was creaping up on 300 pounds... it's wonderful for people to meet me and never know I was so heavy. I love being "normal"... and having people look me in the eye at a store. I love having men hold the door open for me now. I love it when I make a mistake (like having my pocketbook strap stuck in a door) and I laugh, and other's laugh with me.. .instead of scowling at me because I'm a dumb fat woman. I love the way my boss thinks I'm working harder because I just look better. I love the compliments on my clothing. I love the way that people include me now. You will hate the band sometimes... we all do. You will hate not being able to eat things sometimes. BUT, when your journey is moving along well... you will be able to live life "normally"... and you will thank the lap band everyday!

The cost of the surgery at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC is $25,000. My concern is if I have any complications due to the band or if the band slips or needs removal then that is another cost to me. I'm a little nervous until I get more info. I do agree that it is a small price to pay for your health and to feel good AND get back into my size 10s!!!! I don't even care about being smaller than that. What did your doctor say about the future regarding costs to you???

Marie that price is VERY HIGH. You need to shop around. I was banded 7/24/07, self-pay, 14,000, with a year of fills. You could fly down here to New Orleans for 11,000 less.

I am a very slow loser, and my vote is: In a New York second, YES!!

I agree. Here in VA it is not as low as New Orleans but you would save about $8,000 just coming up here.

I would do it again. My insurance did not cover my surgery and the next day I had internal bleeding and had an additional 4 hour surgery, blood transfusions and a trip to the ICU.. with all that - I say YES to the band...

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

      The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
