HELP!

Do you have strategies for staying on your plan?

What do you do at gatherings that are centered around food, like reunions, birthdays, parties, etc?

And when you have a craving do you have a 'plan' for it? Like I know that I get 'chocolate' cravings from time to time and recently I've started keeping sugar-free puddings on hand.

Looking forward to getting help with this, I have a hard time at gatherings:scared2: and at salt/sugar cravings. Thanks!

I do plan for special events. I plan to eat like everyone else. I went to a big event on Friday night and ate one small plate of the wonderful spread, then I stopped when everyone else went back for seconds, thirds etc. I was full and didn’t feel deprived. Sometimes if I am unsure of the food on hand, I will eat a high Protein snack before I go; like tuna or chicken salad.< /span>

As for treats, I allow my favorites in, occasionally. I have a weakness for mac & cheese and white cake. Once every five weeks or so, I just have to have one of these. So I do. I am very regimented in-between. I find that allowing a luxury and knowing that I will get it again in the future helps me to feel good about the in-between times. The idea of NEVER is what drives me to nibble on this or that in an unsatisfying way. I would rather have good consistent weight loss and then a spike from cake than to have slow progress al the time from little cheats. When I do plan a splurge, I savor every bite.

The long term goal for me is to be able to walk into any food situation and be in control enough to eat around 300 calories max. For me, this is what I can fit with the band and is an appropriate amount of calories to consume at one time.

Hope this helps.

Lanie

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
