proud-dad 0 Posted April 28, 2008 It is my 4th day after surgery. I am having problems swollowing anything. I have this pain that comes from the bottom of my chest all the way up to my throat. I don't know what this is. I think this might be acid reflux. But I am not sure. I am woundering if anyone else is having this problem and if someone can tell me what this is. I have only been able to drink one bottle of Water today and half a Protein Shake. Help!!!!!!!

katie78 0 Posted April 28, 2008 dear Dad~ YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I'm day 5 post op, and just now has that feeling started to subside a little. Does it feel like a burp building, and you can feel it trying to squeeze out, and the pressure builds and then nothing HAPPENS????????????? OMG! It is painful, i can feel my heartbeating with it the whole time, and it takes my breath away. Another bandster said that if air it trapped below the band, and our tummys are swollen right now, it's hard for the air to push past the swollen. I have just today started to burp a bit today, but it has still happened. It mostly happens when I'm laying down and go to sit up, it ALWAYS happens right now, just like a burp would do if you were laying down and got up. I'm pretty sure this is what I have, I'm thinking it's what you might be experiencing too. Time, time and time my friend, and lots of getting up. I did try the chewable gas-X tabs and they seemed to help a bit. Hope this helps you, I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!! It will (hopefully) get better!

Hippiemama 1 Posted April 28, 2008 Are you sipping really slow?
proud-dad 0 Posted April 29, 2008 I am sipping slow. time2bandme described it to the T. I just want to burp and make it feel better. I am going to get my prescription for Prevacid filled tomorrow and see if that will help. I will try the gas-x to thank you.
1byfaith 0 Posted April 29, 2008 I am experiencing the same thing. I was banded 5 days ago andhave burped only like 2 times. It doesnt matter if I have eaten or not it is always the same thing. I went to the store yesterday and bought gas-x strips and are taking the maximum. It seems to help somewhat but I think it just pushes the gas down past the stomach. I will be SOOO glad when this is over. I was beginning to think my band had slipped or something. Goof luck.
Lovinmomof3 0 Posted April 29, 2008 I have been banded for a few weeks. it will be like the 6-7th day and most symptoms will go away just make sure you are walking around when you start to feel these pains and also gas-x worked great for me but i learned you have to take it faithfully to the max . drink little at a time as much as possible it helps if you can drink warm liquids it will help dissipate the gas fast. I hope this helps...
NewDiva2008 0 Posted April 30, 2008 I am 7 days post op and felt the same way until 2 days ago. Gas X strips are great! I've also read some replies in other places where some have sipped hot peppermint tea. As Lovinmomof3 suggested, walking helps and the pain will go away in a few days. angelface 1 Posted April 30, 2008 i am having the same problem. The pain is from my chest area up to my throat. It mostly happens when I sit up after laying down. It lasts for about 10 seconds and then disappears. Thanks for all your advice.
dbowers 0 Posted May 4, 2008 I am also in my 4th day post-op. I've had pain in my upper chest and back from the gas. Slowly but surely it is passing (excuse the pun). The Gas-X strips have helped some, Water and walking. Hang in there.
trinity2008 0 Posted May 5, 2008 Hey there! I had my surgery last Wednesday (4/30/2008).I have felt that same exact pain since I came home! I thought something was wrong. Sometimes that pain makes sipping difficult and I have to immediately sit up and try to release the air. It is painful. And sometimes I burp and the majority of time I have to wait until it passes without burping. I am glad I am not the only one experiencing this. Reading all the postings eases my concern. CellPhoneMan 0 Posted May 5, 2008 I was banded on the 29th. Had same experience. It was so bad went to the Dr. 3 days later. He told me this feeling is very common and is due to the band being tight around the stomach and releif will come after healing and weight loss. Even now a week later I am still on pain meds but am finding the sensation is weakening some.
MimiMac 0 Posted May 5, 2008 Hello all! I was banded 4-30-08 also, and what worked for me so well was walking. I am feeling really good, I am truly blessed. Make sure you just sip the liquids, too much at one time can cause the pain. Hang in there! Hope you feel better soon. MimiMac
Bethannwd 0 Posted May 7, 2008 I was banded on 4/30/08 and have been having the same disturbing symptoms you have described. I actually feel worse today. I have the "I think I want to burp, but I can't" feeling, pain in my lower left abdomen, pain in the middle of my chest that feels constricting, back pain opposite the chest constriction, pain in my shoulders and neck, and other odds and ends of discomfort! I hope this is over soon. I'm in grad school and I need to finish a final paper this week and I can't sit at the computer because it just hurts too much!! It's encouraging to hear that I am not the only one experiencing all this. I know it will be worth it soon! Beth
