I'm just a week over my year out and it is funny, I just got a fill, the first one in a long time that has done anything for me, but I decided to go back to post surgery diet so I've had to back track.

After day 8 of my 2 week clear liquid stage, I could not have 1 more cup of plain broth so i went to a sub shop and got some french onion Soup with out the topping (bread and cheese) and put it in my magic bullet to make liquid, was a little thick but not as filling as the creamy Soups. After plain warm broth that was fantastic. Because I know I can have more, I added some lean ground beef to it this time to make a little thicker and added Protein ( I don't know if I would do that post surgery)

That was satisfying for a few more days, then tried cream Soups but all the good ones had hard veggies in them or just didn't do it for me.

Stage 2 beginning mushie stage for me:

I made the insides of stuffed shells, ric cheese, seasoning, egg, parm cheese parsley mixture and put sauce over it and baked for mushie stage. Refried Beans with a little melted cheese and lots of salsa to keep moist was another one of my favorites.

I put everything in the 3-4 oz cups that you can get at the store, the disposable tupperware type things, and never filled them.

What ever you do... just make is mushie and take it slow! Good luck!

Oh, today is day 5 of my fill and I just had some ricotta cheese today and it was good. I needed to remind myself what it is all about.

Take care

My best advice, follow your dr's instructions, but hope some of those things give you some ideas.

tina,

when did your surgeon say you could progress from liquids?

day 4 is REALLY early to move on...

chicken broth, Protein drinks, Jello ... good stuff like that.

Losingjustme - first of all, i've kind of followed you and what an inspiration you are.!!!!

I did add that too, I do drink Protein Drinks, but OMG my dr is so against them, he thinks you are not learning to eat properly. I did do them but didn't make them too thick and waited until I could move on to the dairy phase. I was golden by the book,

I posted a day or so ago because I thought my doc was a little to liberal. He doesn't want me to drink my Protein either and after two days had me back on full liquids. Now he wants me to add "chunks with lots of liquids" whatever that means. I had some vegetable Soup with REALLY, REALLY soft veggies. I put it in the processor so that it wasn't entirely smooth but still drinkable and no chewing needed. Today I had Tomato basil soup with 2 saltine crackers crushed into it. It soaked for a long time and broke apart so you couldn't really tell where the pieces of cracker were but overall it was a bit thicker. I'm still afrad he's going to make my bust my stitches out but I'm sure he knows what he's doing. I'm going easier than I can under his orders...just being careful I guess.

My doc said "move up the schedule as you feel you can. That diet we gave out was more for full gastric patients." I felt a little like a fish out of water--there went my plan!

But, on day four, I moved out of popsicles and Water and had my first scrambled egg. I could only eat about half of one egg. He also said I could move back into Protein after 2 days. I used the Liquid Protein from GNC with flat sprite zero. Between the two--protein and egg, I had a lot more energy and less hunger. After that, I had soft foods for a couple of weeks and slowly added other things. My favorite--crustless pumpkin pie. (Just make the filling part of the pie with low-fat milk and splenda). I got about 12 servings out of one recipe. Froze them in the tiniest ziploc containers, and took one out each night to have for Breakfast the next day.

Day five, I had some cooked spinach and crab meat. The spinach wasn't my best idea ever, but the crab meat was perfect. Soft, good for you, easy on your stomach.

Go slow with anything with more substance that what you're used to eating right now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
