7 months out,Dr. says NO to Smoothies!!

Recommended Posts

My Dr. has constantly said No to any type of smoothie or Protein Drink. He only wants me to eat hard Protein. T he problem is the last few months when its"that time of the month" I get so tight that I can't have much of anything but Protein Drinks, smoothies or Soup. But my Dr. still wants me to EAT my protein and if I drink anything he is goinig to give me an unfill. I don't want that because I'm already hungry alot. But it's only when it's "that time" so what should I do? I don't want to lie and hurt my self but I really don't think I need a unfill! Please somebody HELP!!

Have you explained to him that you can't handle food during your TOM? Is it only around you TOM that you are too tight to eat?

If it was me, and it was ONLY around my TOM that I was too tight, I would maybe puree solid protein and make a homemade soup with it. I have pureed really chunky type stews after I get a fill, just until my band loosens a little. It's soft enough to go down, and it's still thick enough to hold me for a while. If he didn't ask, I wouldn't tell him.

Now if you are too tight to eat at other times too, maybe you do need a slight unfill. It's not good to make a habit of drinking your protein on a regular basis.

What about soft fish or canned tuna or chicken? Have you tried those?

In the morning and afternoon "only aroundTOM" I can't eat much of anything until the evening. Then I probably eat to much:rolleyes:that evening. But a few days after"TOM" I can eat very well. But if I go to the Dr. and get a unfill I will eat like no tomorrow!!! So I will wait and see if I can eat hard Proteins in a few days.Is smoothie King a no no?Even if I get the low calorie with a little protein?:confused2:

Honestly, I've never heard of Smoothie King and I don't know the nutritional content in their products. If it was me, I would just try to eat some soft foods that have Protein.< /p>

You can get a little protein from yogurt and good bit of protein from cottage cheese. I like to mix yogurt and cottage cheese together.

If you must drink something, Starbucks has a skinny latte that has 10g of protein or you could just drink a Protein shake first thing in the morning and try to eat some of the soft protein foods at lunch.

Not sure if any of this helps, but that's what I would do.

Thanks GG, that is just what I am going to do. I'll try some tuna or grilled fish tonight and see how it goes down!

Sounds like your doctor doesn't understand band fickleness. Many people are too tight in the morning to eat solids, too.

Is your doc new to banding?

I wonder if he can be clued in by some more experienced doctors - or the band manufacturer - about the tightness some people experience under stress, in the morning, and at that TOM so he understands that solids are not always possible and it doesn't mean your band is too tight the rest of the time.

You could stick to mushier foods that are easy for you to digest (or whatever your dr will let you get away with), but just mix in some flavorless Protein powder, to make sure you're getting enough Protein, even when you can't manage to get it all in hard foods.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
