Are you hungry after surgery while on the special diet

Recommended Posts

I am hoping to have my band done mid July. I am still in the process of going to all of my doctor appointments and having all of my tests. I was wondering after meeting with the nutritionist last week, she let me know that i will need to be on a liquid diet the week prior to surgery and for about 2 weeks after followed by mushies for another 2 weeks. Then puree for 2 more weeks. This really scares me. How hard is it to do this. After all I need to get this band because i can't seem to control my eating to begin with. Please someome let me know how hard this is so i can prepare myself. :)

Higest weight 233

current weight 227

Oh what i really want to be is 130

I'm only 5 days out but not hungry at all. I am on full liquids and things like yogurt or cream Soup sit with me for a long time(think brick sitting in your stomach). I realize I am still healing but so far so good. I actually have to remember to eat so that I can get a decent amount of water/protein in.

I wasn't hungry at all for the first few days. 2 or 3. Then I hit a day where I was "starving" (obviously I really wasn't) and almost panicked because it seemed impossible to feel full on what I could eat. That lasted about a day and a half, and then it was easy going. To date, I could count on a hand and a half the number of times I've felt "true" hunger. Despite that one moment of panic, I pretty much lost my appetite on the pre-op diet, and it never really came back.

I am 11 days post op. So far I am not hungry at all. What is getting to me is not having anything to crunch or chew. I am so sick of eating meals that are drinkable. I desperately want some hard pretzels!! But I know its all mental & I am strong enough to beat the cravings. Luckily I can move on to pureed/mushies today so hopefully that will help the need to chew. As far as hunger goes, I have to force myself to eat & drink & I feel super full after 1/2 a can of cream Soup or 1/2 a packet of cream of wheat. I have no fill yet.

Hey there...Congrats on your surgery date.

I will say that post op, It wasnt until day 5 or 6, that i was starving.

My dr had me on liquids for 4 long weeks. Then went to pureed. However, I was on a liquid diet for 10 days prior to my surgery and that was 100 times worse than post op.

Good luck, you can do this.

oh, and regarding the crunch? I know this might sound lame but what i did was put get an ice tray or two and fill them up with Crystal light and just chew them when they were frozen.

And I KNOW a lot of people will flame me for this, but I also got sugar free peppermint candy and sucked on those. Not a lot, but just like 2 or 3 a day.

Good luck !

I am 10 days post op and still have not had any hunger, I am only eating about 4oz of Soup a day, about a 1/2c diluted apple juice, 6oz total of Unjury, Water. It has been good so far. I found my two weeks pre-op liquid diet hard, I did cheat a little, and I was ok, I lost 13lbs in two weeks and I wonder just how much more I may have lost if I had not cheated! Good Luck!

Guess its different for everybody

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
