Ack My Pannus!

Recommended Posts

Probably TMI here, but UGH.

I already have major raw going on under my pannus. I still have 60lbs to lose, I can't get PS yet! UGH!

I guess it's a good opportunity to go to the dr and start complaining about it so insurance will pay later?

I'm NOT in the mood to put up with THIS all summer!

Try Cornstarch powder for now, it will help. Don't use talc.

It's a flap of lower abdominal skin that some people have after weight loss.

I would see the doctor, can't hurt to start the process as well as get something to help with the raw skin. Sorry you are hurting so much!

Sorry to hear you are in pain! I also think that is a good idea to start the complaints with your doc on record.

Good luck!

Angie,

At first I said what the heck is a pannus, i thought it was some sort of sandwich. Then when I opened the thread and read it I laughed so hard I almost tinkled myself.

Start complaining sister, that is how I got my breast reduction for Free. well, courtesy of the insurance company. It only took me 3 months of complaining of neck and rash problems.

Definitely complain to the Dr to get that ball rolling but having a large Pannus for a lot of years now the best I've found is a cream stick anti persiperant. Not stick spray or gels. I specificlly use Degree. It goes on drier then the others but keeps the rash away especially in the heat. Shhhhhh my secret don't tell the insurance co. cause I plan to have mine done when I lose the weight. If you are really raw it may sting just alittle but it will clear you right up.

Hope this helps and good luck.

I am currently also trying to build a case for PS. I have a large pannus after losing 150 pounds...I have about 50 more to go. I get raw and I hate the way it slaps when I run!! I see my General Care Physician everytime it gets bad, and I have her document everything. I have been diagnosed with several yeast infections and she prescibes a nice powder that clears it up, but it never stays away for long.

Seems to me that stuff that works great on diaper rash would work on pannus rash, too. I used some stuff called Corona Ointment on my babies. The worst, bleeding diaper rash would clear completely in three days, and you could see significant improvement from one diaper change to the next. You don't get this stuff on the baby aisle at Wal-Mart, though. It's actually used on COWS (hell, that might be appropriate for me! - j/k LOL!) so you find it at the feed store! I swear this stuff is a miracle cream. Why someone doesn't repackage it as a rash cream and make a million bucks is beyond me. Oh, and if you use it on your feet and night and wear socks to bed, you'll have the softest tootsies in the world! It is kind of thick and sticky, though, so not sure if you'd want to use in on your belly during the day.

Take pics of the rashes and date them too. That will help you build your insurance case. A&D Ointment helps a lot too!! it was the only stuff that helped clear my sister's up. Good luck sweetie!! :wink2:

How about bagbalm or Balmex natural healing protective cream, it is the one without the zinc oxide. The one with the zinc oxide is for diaper rash. Butt paste is another cream to try.

Ack! My panties!! I'm not sure if anyone else is having this issue, but as my belly deflates, I've noticed that all my undies are all stretched out from fitting around my massive tummy, and as I walk around all day, they flop around in my clothes. They really are doing me no good in the support arena anymore, so I think it may be time to say goodbye to the granny panties, toss em in the trash and head over to Victoria's Secret and see if I can go back to buying pretty undies.

Re: the pannus (what a nasty word, eh?) gross solution coming up - but it works, so here goes. If you've ever gotten a normal yeast infection, you know how the little over the counter medicine things come with a little extra tube of "external" cream? Why I saved a few

of those, I'll never know - but I'm glad about it now, because I used some of that on the rash and it went away immediately.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
