Recommended Posts

Has anyone had any experience with Dr. David Oliak in Orange, CA? He's the surgeon my PCP medical group contracts with.

Love all the wonderful posts - thank you for all the support and information and first-hand experiences!!

Newjem, I was banded by Dr. Oliak on 4/28-just 2 days ago. Dr. Oliak and his staff have been great. I have no complaints. They've always answered my questions quickly when I call. I would highly recommend Dr. Oliak. Oh. My insurance had sent me to a different dr. but I had heard great things about Dr. Oliak and I asked to change to him. The insurance (Blue Cross) said that it was alright since Dr. Oliak works at a Bariatric Center of Excellence. Good luck and let me know what you decide.

Thanks Angelface, how are you doing? Only 2 days post surgery - wow - congratulations!! Are you feeling good?

That's good news about Dr. Oliak, thanks for posting. I haven't been able to find out too much about him, but he's the surgeon my PCP group contracts with so that's reassuring to know someone who has used him. I went to his seminar yesterday and have decided to have the surgery. I also saw a couple of other posts about him on the CA sub-forum.

Hope to hear more from you as you progress. Take care of yourself!

Dr. Oliak's support group is tonight at 6 western medical hospital in orange. Come over. He is the best. I was banded 9-1-07 from Dr Owens and have lost 120# in 16 months. But Dr. Oliak did my sisters by-pass last july. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
