Hi, I get banded on May 7. I did a lot of research and feel good about my decision. My biggest question which I have asked several people, but still feel I don't understand is when eating do you feel satisfied or restricted by this procedure. I guess I have this fear of never having an enjoyable meal again.

When you are eating - small bites and chew, chew, chew before swallowing. Larger bites and the body tends to automatically swallow on the 12th chew which could cause a logjam in your pouch causing sever pain and then having to vomit.

Most people have posted they feel a pressure like a lump at the top of the stomach. Others sneeze, others feel pain, yet other experience hiccups.

I found that I experienced pain and by then it was too late so my doctor told me to measure my food. When I measure I have no problem. You have to learn to listen to your body and stop don't force more food down or you will end up vomiting and in pain

3 oz of hard Protein chewed thoroughly and 4-6 oz of veggies. Eat hard protein every 4 hours and you will not feel hungry. And yes, you will enjoy your meals even more as you will taste the food not gulp it down whole like no tomorrow.

Thank you it was really nice to hear from a person who still enjoys their food in moderation and stays healthy at the same time. That is my goal I have too many other interests to be worried about feeling sick every time I eat. Although I have a feeling it will will take several months to be where you are now. Thanks for the hope.

Why is it that you feel pain if you over eat? Is the food pushing against the band...making it painful?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
