What?! I was filled in surgery!!

Recommended Posts

I went for my "first fill" the other day only to find out that I had already had 5cc in my 10cc band. I was shocked. Leading up to the "fill" I was starving and eating more than I should have with NO problems. My Dr. said he always fills the band during surgery, I had no idea. I was thinking....well why the heck am I so hungry then? So I got another 1cc to bring me up to 6cc total and I am still not feeling restriction. I am calling in the morning and going for another fill this week... I hope. This is just crazy though. Has anyone had a similar situation? I am bit discouraged now that I know I was filled and eating good amounts of food with no problems. My weight loss had stopped and I am feeling down for sure. I hope my next fill helps!

I never heard of this before??? Interesting! It's not unusual to not have restriction until several fills so I hear.

It is really not that uncommon for the larger bands - 10cc+ to be filled during surgery; it actually helps for many in advancing fills & getting to restriction sooner.

I had 5cc's put in surgery - I could not imagine having none & waiting what took (In my mind = forever) longer than 5 months to get to the proper restriction. For me, I needed 8.5cc's in my 10cc band before I recognized "true restriction".

I have a 10cc band and had 4cc's at the time of surgery. I am scheduled for a fill on 5/19. I feel some restriction but still get hungry at times. I am hoping that my fill works. I don't want to keep going back too many times. But, I will see how it goes.

I had three ccs put into a 10cc APS band and feel restriction. I was banded about three months ago. It's really very common.

I am now up to a total of 6 cc's and I don't feel like I have any restriction...I can still eat whatever I want and that's not a good thing....hoping 7 cc's does the trick.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
