I am very nervous about having my first PB. How long after you eat something that doesn't sit well do you feel the need to pb? Is it immediate or like an hour later? I'm almost 2 weeks post-op and will soon be starting more solid foods and would like to know before I venture out what to expect. Would I have time to get to a bathroom?

I didn't have my first PB until after my first fill. Before that I didn't have much restriction. I usually feel a stuck sensation, and if i wait a little while it goes down, otherwise I have to PB. I always have time to get to a bathroom.

But how soon after you eat the food that you have to pb? Is it immediate or does it take a while to go down and give you signs that its stuck?

Usually it is right after I have eaten something. Often, I haven't even finished eating (of course, maybe that's the problem!) Lots of times I can avoid a pb incident if I get out and walk a lot. That kind of shakes things down and loose.

Believe me, you will know when it doesn't want to go down, like right away. I always get in trouble when I'm eating something that I really like and want just one more bite. Otherwise, I've learned to try to avoid the things that get stuck, like chicken breast (kind of dry sometimes) and chew really well and eat slow.

Okay, I'm a newbie here and I'm trying to learn as much as I can. What is a PB? Thanks for the help.

I also am concerned about this PB. Does it happen just because something can't get through the band or once you have eaten to much and it is backing up into your esophagus?

I am not sure what the PB stands for although I have seen it on here several times. It is something to do with burping and you "puke" until the caught item comes up. However, it is not puking with stomach acid because it has never reached your stomach..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
