Banded on April 17, 2008 Is it normal to feel weak?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on April 17, 2008. I'm so weak from not getting any food. I am still on full liquids and I drink the slim fast low carb (when I can find it). I'm losing a little bit of weight, but I'm very weak. Is that normal? My belly itches something terrible too!

Miss Daisy, the answer to your question is YES, it is normal to feel a little weak as you're in the liquid phase. Be sure you're getting enough Protein and liquids, and your body will adjust. But you're definitely going through something and you're still healing, so take it easy.

The itching belly is due to healing. It too is perfectly normal. Congratulations on your banding!!

Feeling Week IS NOT NORMAL! Your body is giving you WARNING Signs!!! Your lacking minerals in your body. You may not be taking in enough Protein!! Are you taking your Vitamins???? I was banded on 4/16/08 and I have not once felt a WEEK moment!!! I'm takin in approx 72-84 grams of protein... how much are you taking in??? I also take in chewable centrums, B12, C, Calcium w/D. Please call your Dr... even better, your neutritionist. Lots of luck!

I agree. I never once felt weak. I felt tired if I would move around a lot right after surgery, but never weak. And that tired feeling passed within a few days. As a matter of fact, I've never had more energy than I do right now. I made sure I was getting in all of my Protein from shakes, protein Water (Isopure), and broth. In the days following surgery I wasn't hungry, but I still had my protein. And of course my Vitamins. If you're feeling that bad, call your doctor.

Well, everyone's experience is different, of course, but it can indeed be perfectly normal to feel a little weak and dizzy when adjusting to a drastically reduced caloric intake. My point was that it's nothing to panic about, but it is something to address. Taking in enough Protein and fluids is vital, of course.

I felt weak the first week or so. I realized it was because I wasn't eating (drinking) enough and my doctor said to have a few extra Protein shakes. After surgery I couldn't even drink half a shake so it was tough.

After about 10 days I started on mushy stuff like yougart and Soup with really small noodles and felt alot better. I also increased my Water intake.

I was feeling very weak the first week or so after surgery. I know it was due to my lack of food intake. I was on Clear Liquids for about 5-6 days. This was just broth, SF Jello, SF popsicles, and crystal light. I started to get my strength back as I went on the mushy stage when I got to eat things with more nutritional value. I don't know if this is normal but it was for me. I wasn't able to eat or drink very much so there wasn't much choice in the matter.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
